i have a game i want to play with a friend and theres a network play setting in there. I was wondering if i could play with my friend which is on her computer at her house. we are not on the same network but is it possible to play together? i am using a router so would that affect my IP address if i were to be the server?

It cannot be done without some h@ck program which is highly unadvisable because if the software manufacturer sees you using their program in that way and if they don't like it they could stop you from using their program over the internet on their servers. So don't do it.

Use PORT FORWARDING to your computer on the NES emulator's port. You can then get DynDNS so you can easily connect to your computer from anywhere, or have your friend need to remember the simple phrase to hook you 2 up together over the internet

Just get her IP address and connect to it using the program... go to whatismyip.com...
