Do I have to be certified to be a Computer Service Technician

No, but you would get a better job if you had A+ Certified and something like Cisco Networking or Microsoft Engineer Certificaton, Novell Engineer Certification because you might be working at places that use Novell Networks.

I have a friend who is in charge of the computers at a local hospital and he is A+ Certified, Microsoft Engineer, and Novell and I don't know what else he is.

Try your local Community College because ours offers A+ Certification, Cisco Networking, and the A+ has a help desk technician course attached to it.

No - but it helps your credibility. At the same time, I've seen some certified techs that I can't believe they didn't just accidentally pass they were so bad. But there's no state or federal law that I'm aware of that says you must be certified to be a computer service technician.

No but it sure helps. If your a computer person the A+ is easy enough. the test is a few hundred dollars and there are two parts.

if u r going to work with some company , they will require a certificated person
if u gonna work on ur own then there is no need
