Your 802.11b unit was probably manufactured prior to the implementation of gigabit or 1000mb technology. However, like all routers, it is still capable of operating at wired speeds of 100mb.
*Even newer gigabit routers are capable of "falling-back" (operating at slower speeds) in order to communicate with connected devices.

If you are asking if a wireless connection is as fast as a wired connection strictly speaking the answer is no. However, high-speed internet in the US tops out at 10Mbps anyway. So it doesn't matter what the network is capable of, it is more than capable of handling the speed of whatever connection type you might have. However, I prefer g routers not for the enhanced speed but for the enhanced range. g routers will cover more area than a b router will. But b and g devices are backwards compatible with each other.

Reading the hard-core technical specs, some routers boast faster performance than others, based on their internal structure. It's concieveable that one brand of wireless router might be slightly faster than another in terms of routing speed because of their design, length of their circuits, etc. However, you're talking about distances measured in inches and velocities at the speed of light. The difference in speed, if any, would not be humanly noticeable.

If you're physically connecting an Ethernet wire to the router, it should automatically default to 100Mbits and should be as good as any other router. I'm not sure if it would support Gigabit ethernet, but if it did, it would default to the fastest speed.

No, wireless B is 10MB/s wheras the router can support 100MB/s
But to tell you the truth, unless you are downloading a movie or you play-bandwith intense online games, you will never know the difference
