I cannot start my bike, i suspected the battery but the battery is now fine.. I suspect it to be the carb!

Mainly because the it has been left standing for some time now and i may need to overhaul it.

But before i do, What do you think could be wrong?

Basically, The bike is a kick-start, 1980's single cylinder Suzuki (recently re-built)

I have only one concern with the way it was re-built and that is the TDC position, Would this have major effect on the bike starting, it has good compression but i am unsure of how to get this TDC (top dead centre) position? Would i have to re-build the engine again?

Any ideas, comments, suggestions very much appreciated! Thanks!!

It was acting as if the plugs were going bad, so I changed them out. They were NGK, I replaced with Champion, Gapped at .035. The engine turns over and just keeps turning - no starting. I rechecked the gaps a couple times and I'm sure they are good.

I paid 5200 for the bike. 16K mi.
it was dropped at a light, but the frame slider picked up most of the damage, the frame slider was replaced and the damage painted over, you can barely tell. No other problems I can see, everything works and a $300 set of hid's came with it.

did I get a good deal, or pay too much?

I have a 2003 gsxr 1000 with a leaking front fork. Both the forks were rebuilt about 2k miles ago, and one is leaking again.

I'm a fairly handy car mechanic, but I've never worked on a bike, can I buy a stand and do this myself, or should I take it in?

Since it's already been rebuilt once, should I just buy a new fork/forks???

thanks!

A lot about jackets, some about boots and gloves but nary a mention about armored pants. Is it that riding pants are'nt fashionable enough? I don't think I've seen many worn. While I'm here, do you get many waves from Goldwing riders? Do they think their in a class by themselves?

Could the switch itself be bad? Once in a blue moon it will start using the button, otherwise I have to push start. What else could be causing my problem?

Am learning how to ride a motorcycle and am wondering when am slowing down can I wait to change the gears when am at a complete stop or do i have to decrese the gears one by one. I live where there is alot of traffic and it is pain in the behind if i always downshift while slowing down every minute or less. I thought it'll be easier for example if am in 4th gear, I'll stop the bike in the 4th gear...and then shift it back to the first. Will this wear out the clutch quickly?

So a number of us are fairly regular on here and I thought it would be nice to find out what you guys all have. Biking went beyond being just a passion with me years ago and now I am kind of obsessive compulsive and thus tend to get them and hold on to them too. I am sure all will have an opinion on what they like however I feel no one has to justify there choice to anyone but below is my current stable

Ducati 999 (2006)
Ducati ST2 (1997)
Triumph T140ES (1981)
Honda 400-4 (1979)
Maico 250 Twin Shock (1981)
CEZET 175 wuth PAV Trailer (1974)
BSA Bantam (1971)
Yamaha YSR50 x 2 - (1980/81)
Suzuki GS425 - (1979)
Yamha RD350LC - (1981)
Honda CB250N - (1979)
Honda CB250RS - (1982)
JAWA350 x 2- (1977)

There is not a single one that has not brought a smile to my face and in my book a real biker likes ALL bikes, irrespective of make, model, style or any other genre.
