when in nuetral, or low gear 1,2,3rd. there is a clattering sound coming from the left side, clutch cover/gear cover, goes away from time to time, clatter is louder when bike has been driven/ Hot. When you pull the clutch lever in sound is gone........ any idea's ????????? clutch job maybe, or worse ?????

You need to remove the left footpeg and the left sidecover and see if its something loose or just your primary chain.

The primary chain adjustment is very difficult on those so get a pro to check that.

Working for Harley I have to agree with checking the tension on the Primary Chain. Many people change the fluids on bikes, but do not realize that there is more to be done in a service than just fluids. Adjusting the Primary Chain is one of them. Pull the inspection or clutch cover off and check the tension on the chain. If you have never had it adjusted, then now would be a good time.

could be a number of things,has the bike been dropped? at first I thought maybe primary chain;But since it goes away when the clutch is pulled in,it probably is in the clutch assembly. possibly the throw out bearing. at the least you will need to pull the primary cover to check things out. I wouldn't ride it much until you have it checked, if it is in the transmission , you will only make it worse.
