I have a 2003 Yamaha R1 and am wondering if it is common for them to take 3 or 4 goes to start? It doesn't seam to be labouring like it would be with a flat battery and it runs fine when it starts. The local bike shop says that it isn't a problem but I am curious as it sems odd that a fuel injected bike would do that. Any ideas?

What do you usually suggest?

I see this question alot, and curious what other riders suggest. Do you suggest new riders to look at a smaller cruiser for 1st bike to learn on (Rebel, Virago, etc) or smaller sportbike (ninja, Nighthawk, etc) for 1st bike.

They both have pro's & con's regarding weight of bike, riding position, etc - but is one really easier to learn on then the other?

I'm gonna get my motorcycle license and I was just wondering what a good starter bike might be. I am 6'1 230 lb (was 200 before I started working out....seriously) if that helps. I heard that for my size, 600-650 cc would be good therefore I was looking into the honda cbr 600, suzuki katana 600, sv650sf abs, sv650sf, gsx650f, gsx-r600, thanks.

I'm looking at an 03R1, it's got some paint missing on the rear wheel rim under the caliper, it looks like some liquid dripped down and ate the paint, the rear master cylinder was also very low.

Is this a rear brake leak?
If there's no visual spill when I pump the pedal what's another way to verify a leak?

I have a Gilera SMT (yes I know it’s just a 50cc!) and when I am holding the clutch fully in and go down the gears when I get to first it either won't go into gear (and the lever vibrates like hell under my foot) or it makes a loud clunk/bang sound. This happens when I am at speed and pull the clutch in and just drift up to a junction putting it into first - so I will be ready to take off. Please note I am not totally stupid and do not just go straight from sixth to first and dump the clutch! This occurs when I have the clutch pulled in. It seems O.K. if the road speed is low and I am wondering if the gear is partly engaged even when the clutch is fully in and so the road speed is far too much for first gear. Please give me your thoughts on how to sort it out or if you think I'm doing something wrong.
Sorry - I’m sure it sounds stupid but I have just started riding and am really enjoying it however this is very off putting.

Thanks in advance.

I'm looking at this chopper on ebay and thinking about snatching it up, but it has a springer front end and was wondering how this ride was compared to standard forks. Anyone witha springer front end could help with this ?

I am planning on purchasing a truck. In the near future I will also be purchasing a motorcycle. I would like to make sure that the truck I purchase is able to carry the bike.

Obviously, the bed of the truck will have to be long enough to carry a bike. I will also have to research ramps and lifts to figure out how I will actually get the bike in the back of the truck. What else do I need to worry about?

I plan on purchasing a cruiser style bike around a 650 - perhaps a V-Star Classic or Honda Shadow.

I'm getting ready to buy a bike, I have a few to choose from, a 99R1 for 5,000 which has tons of aftermarket, an 01 CBR929RR-$4500 pretty much stock and looks very clean. And an all stock 03R1 for $4500. Naturally I want the 03 out of the group, but the hangers for some of the lines are rusted, and I noticed the rear brake master cylinder was low, and there's a large spot of paint missing on the rear wheel in the shape of luqid flow (suggesting a rear brake leak).

What else should I look for if I go c that R1 again? should I even bother? Which bike would you get?

The speedometer is cable driven. Is there a point at which the cable is too far in the speedometer or can I tighten the nut holding the two together all the way?

There show was getting to much about them going on trips and other stuff and not much about making bikes. But now that the main guy that made the bikes left im gone to. Also the way they treated Vinnie really turned me off to the show. YOu just dont treat people who made your business like that. And now it seems that the teutuls are sell outs and just do whatever makes money and they whore themselves out to corporate america.

I'm 26 and i've been wanting to ride a sports bike ever since i rode on the back of one (which was years ago). Just recently i rode on the back of my friends bike and i had forgotten how much fun it was....and now i have the opportunity to learn how to ride one but i'm getting the jitters. I see so many females riding and they look so powerful....but my confidence on riding has dropped some.

Should i think twice about learning how to ride...or should i just let loose and do what i've always wanted to do?

Hi, I'd like to know if a motorcycle from one country is basically able to ridden straight away in another country; for example, could I ride on to the Dover- Calais ferry and simple ride off the other end, or are there very minor adjustments that have to be made first, as with cars (e.g., direction of the headlights needs to be minutely changed, etc).

Cheers!
