I'm looking at an 03R1, it's got some paint missing on the rear wheel rim under the caliper, it looks like some liquid dripped down and ate the paint, the rear master cylinder was also very low.

Is this a rear brake leak?
If there's no visual spill when I pump the pedal what's another way to verify a leak?

It could be that it was, and got fixed.
What did the last owner have to say about it?
You could always have it checked, or if you are confident in your own abilities, you could top up the reservior and check it yourself. A leak is a leak, meaning stuff comes out. And brake fluid does not get thinner with heat. If it changed like that, it couldn't be used for brakes.

Man, regardless of the brakes leaking or not, if they function you can ususally feel the fade. Have you ever tried to re-paint a piece of metal that has been damaged by brake fluid? It totally permiates the metal and you will never repair the cosmetic damage ever again. So, unless you plan on replacing the rear wheel with a big *** chrome 280 wheel and extended swing arm forget it. DO NOT TRY TO IMAGINE RE POWDER COATING OR PAINTING. it just doesn't work with brake fluid damage.

if your brakes are leaking there is always a visual leak which is easy to see its not like brake components are hidden any place on any model car, and if they are leaking its probably a very very slow leak and thats how they usualy leak... so you cant see brake fluid pouring out like a Tap but there is always enouf wetness that you are able to see and smell.
Its your brakes mate, you dont need an advise on it if its leaking get it fixed!!! dont let some grease monkey like me tell you to do this Or that...

yes this sounds like it has or had a leak it may have been cleaned well so you didnt see any fluid residue but if it does have a leak you would normaly lose more when it is riden for awile, the fluid would heat up and thin out so it would seap out ware ever the leak is hope this helps

Nate
you know the saying when in doubt throw it out, if its not broke don't fix it, but it seems like your is. So if you think it is leaking then fix it, like some said "its your breaks" and you don't want them to stop working when you need to stop, don't you think because its going to hurt when you do stop on the ground or the back of a slow moving car.
...Take care be safe, to many of us hit the ground when we don't have to.
....cyan....
