ZX6 R engines uses hydraulic lifters so there should be no clearance issues unless a lifter has let go.

Always give "year", "make", engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an "informed" answer.
It took a while to figure an F3 is 1997
That bike doesn't have hydraulic valve adjusters, it has shim under buckets.
I'd give that job a good 2 hours.
Both camshafts have to be removed to adjust the valve clearance if adjustment is required.
Multiply your local shop's hourly labor rate by 2 and round the number up to a $50 mark.

You can check the clearance yourself.
Get a service manual for your bike and follow the procedure. My Ninja ZX-6R is a 99 so it may differ from yours, so I won't state any specs.
But basically, you need to obtain a thickness gauge, position crankshaft properly for whichever valve clearances you are measuring. Then you determine if it is out of spec. And if it is out of spec the manual has a chart which will tell you what size shim to use to get it back in spec.
If you do need to replace any shims, it will require removing the camshafts as a previous answerer mentioned. This procedure you may want the shop to perform. But simply checking the clearances you should be able to do yourself.

If you want to cut the cost of labour - simply remove the fairing side panels - most dealers will bill you at least half an hour to remove / refit.
Call local dealers for quotes - but ask around with other riders as there are some knobheads out there !

I think they are hydraulic they adjust themselves? The only reason to want them checked is if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket (in which case you can send it to me?) or you have loud tappets? If it low miles then theres really no need?
