I'm gonna get my motorcycle license and I was just wondering what a good starter bike might be. I am 6'1 230 lb (was 200 before I started working out....seriously) if that helps. I heard that for my size, 600-650 cc would be good therefore I was looking into the honda cbr 600, suzuki katana 600, sv650sf abs, sv650sf, gsx650f, gsx-r600, thanks.

For your size I would get at least a 650 or 700. Remember , that size engine will get you around the streets but its a little light for expressway driving for long periods. If that bothers you go ahead and get a larger bike, you probably will anyway

I'm not gonna give you a run down on the do's and dont's on getting your bike since it's your first (you've probably done your research already). Ideally from the choices you gave I'd go for the Honda cbr 600 but in reality the Suzuki SV650 abs would do it... it's a good, reliable bike.

PS
1) A MSF course is a definite DO!
2) Get a used one

No sport bikes. You're just learning, you don't need, or want, that kind of power. Anything in a 500-750 range for a cruiser or standard style bike is a good place to start. See if you can find an older Japanese bike, they're usually available pretty cheap. Learn on that, get used to riding. Then you can sell it for probably just as much as you paid and get yourself a more personally specific bike.

dont forget the throttle works both ways so a bigger bike is not a bad idea
my first big bike was a sv650 so much fun but after a year i wanted something faster so i got a bandit 1200cc but after a year i then wanted something faster that handled better so now i have a cbr900rr classic bike

Go to the showroom & sit on many to find which feels most comfortable with your height, etc. Rent one for a couple of hours if possible.

why dont u see the new kawasaki ninja 250r?
its good enough to hold 80-90 mph on the highway and the new model looks sexy too. It is cheap also.

i started with a VTX 1800 Retro cruiser. 20,000 miles later, i'm still happy with it.
