I want to clean the carbs on my bike. I have NEVER done anything like this before. I'm a bit overwhelmed by what I see in the Clymer manual. It seems fairly complicated for a guy like me.

Anyways, I really want to do it but I definitely want to take all neccesary precautions. I love my bike and I want to do it right. Can you guys help me out? What do I need to watch out for? What should I NOT do?

What are the float bowls???

Thanks,

Ed

I have read about at least 2 people who have written about road tests of motorcycles on their personal webpages, that say that the bike they tested was provided by a dealership. While it is understandable that a dealer or manufacturer may provide a bike for reporters of a well-established motorcycling magazine to review, how do private individuals get dealerships to let them road test their motorcycles?

And why would any dealership let them use their motorcycles for road tests by private individuals that are not affiliated with a magazine or a professional motorcyclist without buying the bike?

This seems strange, because I wonder what dealerships have to gain by letting someone have their bikes simply to put a review on their personal web page, given the obvious liabilities that are involved with motorcycles in general.

I have a 1974 Honda CB550. I want to change the oil and I got two big jugs of 10W40 today. I got home and read the manual and realized 10W40 was maybe not the best choice of oil. Apparently the 10W40 is best between -20 and 45 degrees F.

I live in Chicago where it is starting warm up outside. Is it a really bad idea to use the 10W40? or does it not really matter? Why, why not?

Thanks,

Ed

Are they the same?

The manual also says I can use NDX22ES, Bosch X270 T-17, or Champion A7Y-MC.

Which do you recommend? Why?

I am repairing a Honda CB 500T. After finally getting it started, I noticed one exhaust gets extremely hot; the other not so hot. There is a small amount of backfiring as I rev it up. Any assist would be appreciated.

I learned to drive a motorcycle when I visited India (youtube: India driving) where the bikes typically ranged from 100cc-450cc. My first motorcycle there was a 150cc, but I rented and drove motorcycles up to 350cc. While i was there i faced almost every traffic, weather and road condition you can imagine. Now that i am back in the US and have moved to California, I am very very excited to get a Motorcycle! I've signed up for the safety course to help w/ insurance costs, and so that I can get liscenced and test drive bikes when i start shopping for one.

I am interested in buying a used motorcycle that will have longevity as well as resale value. I am 6', 175lbs and 22 years old. I live in the San Jose and want a motorcycle that accomodates everyday riding as well as road-trips. I want to be able to ride my motorcycle to work, to the gym, to San Francisco, to LA, etc. etc. Needless to say, riding comfort is important. What should i get?

The change will also include SE bolt in cams. Any idea what hp and torque is possible? I can do the job myself - money is a factor.
Presently, the bike is an 883/1200 convert with original 883 heads, aftermarket high flow SE mufflers and air box, and gets about 63hp with approximately 68 lb-ft of torque. It does a nice job. Hauls my and Mama's a$$es around quite well.

I was telling a guy I work with about a motorcycle ad I'd seen in a recent magazine. They look like a knock off Harley but I think they are built in S. America... maybe Korea. Brand new they are only about 2K. I think and they only have about 25 hp. Anybody know what they are called?

I have a 1983 Yamaha Virago. I recently dropped it. The battery was dead and I was pushing it on gravel and the bike slipped.

Anyway, the clutch lever broke off. I ordered a new clutch lever. I understand how to unscrew and remove the clutch from the bike however, I don't know how to remove the clutch cable from the old lever.

Any websites or advice is appreciated, so that I can put on the new clutch.

I was stopped at a red light the other day and a guy in the car next to me started to ask me where I was playing, how long we were going to be in town, etc. I wasn't really following what he was saying and then he told me that he said I looked just like the guy in the Village People and he thought I was a member of the band. Given, I was wearing my chaps and my HD fringed leather jacket, but to me that look conveys more of a bad boy image than that of, uh, the whole gay-vibe thing that the Village People are about. Do you think people easily confuse the leather-clad bad boy Harley image with the leather clad gay community image? This isn't the first time someone has mistakenly believed based on my Harley-clad appearance that my sexual preference does not include women.

When im on my bike I usually find that Harley Davidson motorbikes always get more respect on the road, people who ride there multi coloured bikes with power ranger leathers never get let out of roads.... Why is this... What are your thoughts on this theory??

(im biased because i ride a Harley)
