I was stopped at a red light the other day and a guy in the car next to me started to ask me where I was playing, how long we were going to be in town, etc. I wasn't really following what he was saying and then he told me that he said I looked just like the guy in the Village People and he thought I was a member of the band. Given, I was wearing my chaps and my HD fringed leather jacket, but to me that look conveys more of a bad boy image than that of, uh, the whole gay-vibe thing that the Village People are about. Do you think people easily confuse the leather-clad bad boy Harley image with the leather clad gay community image? This isn't the first time someone has mistakenly believed based on my Harley-clad appearance that my sexual preference does not include women.

Before they did the gay-vibe thing, the Village People did the "Macho Man" thing. One of the macho men was a Harley rider -- hardtail, if I am remembering the movie correctly.

From the Internet:

"The members each dress as a police officer, an American Indian chief, a construction worker, a member of the military, a leatherman (biker), and a cowboy"

No offense, but maybe it's just you. I ride a Harley Street Glide, and if the temp drops below 30, I'll have chaps on as well, but no one has ever said that I looked like anyone in the Village people. Maybe, you should go to Haband and get a pair of jeans that are flannel lined and forgo the chaps.

Like some one mention earlier... This might be the first time some one had the balls to ask you but in reality we'll think like that!!!

What do you think of the crotch rockets and their power ranger outfits??? Right, is the same thing!!!

I personally do find it funny when I see a bunch of people searching for the unimaginable at the local H-D dealer.

With all the respect in the world "GROW UP"

I've never been mistaken for a gay dude in the village people on my Harley. Maybe it's time you beat in your new leathers.

Next time, try the Indian outfit, or the Navyboy one!

Take a walk in your local gay area on a hot saturday night, you'll never wear chaps and fringed leather jacket again...

Real Bikers don't wear all that "Harley Gear" and no real biker wears Chaps unless it really really cold. You probably did look gay. I bet all your leather was brand new. Even your boots, gloves and helmet say "Harley Davidson" on them. Stop believing that you have to wear "GEAR" just because you ride a motorcycle. The only "GEAR" I wear is my vest showing my colors and rockers. Harley is just trying to make money, and they are by selling all of you yuppies, rubs and wannabees all these clothes so you can feel like a "Biker" Trust me what you wear and what you ride does not make you a "Biker" it probably does make you a member of the Village People.

Riiiight. You hooked a lot of suckers with that one.

Sounds like your hatred of Harley is turning into an obsession, and get over the gay thing too, either that, or just bust out of that leather closet of yours.

Its a well documented fact that the Harley is the bike of choice for the gay community. Throw in the fringy leather outfit and the finely manicured facial hair so popular amongst the Harley crowd (and gay crowd), and it makes for you being one popular guy. Interestingly, I had a college professor that strongly believed you have to have some level of homosexuality to own a Harley given the glam factor and the fact that 9 out of 10 Harleys are bought by people more concerned about image than riding. Just revel in your newfound buttcowboy glory and enjoy the attention.

No offence, but I was just telling my boyfren the other day when we rode out to Malaysia how the HOGs could pass off as the Village People ;-) But, if you're comfortable with your sexuality, dont bother yourself with their comments. They're probably jealous that they cant carry the look!

They're just jealous, probably. If it bothers you, ditch the chaps and just wear jeans ... more Brando, less Village People.
To me, chaps and jeans make it look like you're wearing a denim diaper. But that's just me.
