Even though they are more expensive I always use Factory H.D filters. H.D. filters have a consistent 40 micron screen and with other brands you can't be sure what the rating is.
The micron rating effects the speed at which the oil can move.
If you buy "plain wrap" filters ,be sure they are to OEM specs.
You can get inexpensive ones here,(as little as $5.00)

Many auto parts stores, especially the "chain" type have filters. Also try a local parts distributor, not a Harley shop. Also as mentioned, Wal mart.
Motorcycle dealers, just like car dealers, charge way more for parts that you can get elsewhere. Examples for parts for my bike: Oil filter dealer $20.00. Independent bike parts dealer $8.00. Battery dealer $95.00. Internet store $45.00

If you do not support your local Harley dealer, what would you do if they went away? If you are going through them that fast, then switch to a black one to save some cash. You can get some through several reliable aftermarket companies such as Drag Specialties, but I would not trust certain parts on my bike. Especially on something regarding maintenance, I want to make sure everything works within manufacturers specs. If you are still within warranty, what would happen if your engine starts making funny noises? You certainly cannot take it to an on-line store to fix! And also depending on the shop, they may tell you Harley will not fix your problem because you have an insufficient oil filter, etc.

Dennis Kirk has chrome filters. Most expensive was 11.00$. Order over 100 $ and the shipping is free for U.S. I don't know about Canadian shipping costs. On line or 800-969-7504.

I use the HD filter to maintain my warranty.
I use the black one to save some coin.
I've got too much chrome anyway. No sense in spending extra to throw it away.
Besides, it's a little nicer to the environment. Have you seen a chrome plating line? Or what they do with the nasty stuff (cyanide, etc.) afterwards?
