What causes the teeth on the end of the armature to be ground off. I have had two starters now where something is ruining them.

It's an old car, and sits in my garage. In the past 3-4 months it has taken progressively longer to start the engine. Until this past weekend, it wouldn't start. Battery is good and it cranks and cranks, but no start.

I think it's the spark plug or fuel pump. But if either one was to fail, do they typically fail overtime? Because my car was starting but it just got harder and harder over time until this weekend when it stopped starting. I'm trying to narrow down the possibilities.

I have a 96 Merc. Sable. The battery is only 18 months old. I try to start it and nothing happens except for a small click click. Will start immediately with a jump. Volt meter shows battery at about 12.6V, lights work etc. I cleaned the mild corrosion on the posts. Seems like an electrical problem, but not sure how to trace it. Any suggestions?

For reasons unknown to me, the clutch & clutch release bearing in my '05 Accord Coupe needs replaced. Dealer wants $1360 for parts and labor. I've already had it towed there, so I'm probably gonna go ahead and let them do the work. The part that sucks is that my warranty just expired (36,000 mi. warranty...mileage is currently at 39,010) I bought the car (certified pre-owned from the same dealer) only 9 months ago...it had 29k miles at the time.

What would cause the clutch to go bad in a low mileage 2005 Honda? Any other thoughts on the matter?

This is really stupid of me so please dont say anything mean. I was driving on the expressway going at least 60. My dog was in the car with me. He jumped into the front seat and somehow pushed my gears into nuteural.I noticed right away someting was wrong so i freaked out and put my car into reverse (on accident) and then immediately into drive. How bad is this for your car when you are driving.

While I am driving my 1997 saturn, white smoke comes from under my hood. It lasts for about 3-5 seconds and stops. Car temperature is normal and the car runs fine before, while and after the smoke shows up. I look under the hood and everything is normal. Any idea what might be going on?

I was making kind of a joke to someone and I told them that I was going to put one motor in the front and in the back of the car! He told that it's possible! That with a computer that controls the engines it could be done! Is it possible?

I've been told that synthetic oil is better for the car engine and can last longer between oil changes. Is that true?

What tools would be required? About how long would it take someone who's swapped a motor before? Are there any step by step guides out there that I'm unaware of? I have a rod knock in my motor and am trying to save myself a grand and pull the motor myself to have it fixed. I've pulled and swapped a motor from a Nissan 240sx before and swapped clutches. What should I expect? Any tips?

It will stay on for anywhere from 5 minutes to 15 then go back off. The coolant isnt low because I have checked it and the overflow isnt empty either. I'm a female so I would rather depend on you mechanical men here on Yahoo Answers than go to a random auto shop and be taken for my money...any advice is greatly appreciated!

Whenever I use my windscreen wipers on my car it doesn't matter if its slamming it down with rain or just a light drizzle they always squeak! Sometimes it gets so loud you have to shout over the noise just to be heard by the person sat next to you, surely I'm not the only one with this problem. They don't need replacing as I have checked them and their fine. Please do not post any stupid answers on here, as it is a pure waste of time, Thanks

I'm trying to rule out things like relays. The battery was bought about 3 months ago. When you try to crank the car, there is nothing. You plug it up to another vehicle and it doesn't give enough power to start the engine. I don't want to have to spend the time and the money to replace the alternator if that's not the problem. I'm almost 5 months pregnant and can't get underneath vehicles like I once did. So... give me some sound advice any mechanics out there.

I have a 2001 ford focus. a few days ago, my engine service light came on. a week before, I took my car for an oil change. everything seemed to be fine.

i took my car to the mechanic and was told that there was nothing wrong with the engine. he turned off the light but adviced me that if the light turned on again, to have it checked with my dealer.

i'm just wondering what could possibly be wrong. everything is fine. the engine runs the same, fluids have been inspected.

any information is greatly appreciated. thanks!

its leaking from somewhere in the back, would a bad water pump leak alot of water? i noticed that the water outlet was leaking, but i pluged it with silicone, i need to know what it is leaking from. it drives good, and there is no sign of water in the oil. so what could it be?

Almost like clockwork as soon as i rolled over 125,000miles it begun. Started out with some bad hesitation until finally It wouldnt start. It cranks but wont fire, pretty strong smell of gas as well. If it sits a few days 3-4 it'll fire up after a little coaxing.

Smelled the dipstick and it had a very strong odor of gas. Thinking I had a leak I eventually got down into the upper intake and there was a nice little glistening pool of gasoline sitting on the intake right below the pressure regulator (#6 cylinder i believe)

I've checked/replaced most of the regular items (60-61psi from the pump) and wont be able to get to the auto store until later this week, but could that little puddle be the cause of my hesitation/no start woes?

I did get the following codes as well

P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

I haven't done anything to it myself, I just got the car and it was like that when I got it. If there was something I could do myself without having to take it to get it replaced, that would be helpful! Thanks!

I have an 85 S-10 Blazer SUV with V8 350 engine from 77 Caprice. The radiator is for Corvette, heater used restricted nipple to reduce the flow into heater core. I have been trying to eliminate the overheat problem by not using A/C, however, during the hot days, temp. around 90 F, the car will overheat. I decided to remove the A/C system all together including condensor to improve the radiator efficiency, mounts one push fan in front the radiator...any other ways to eliminate the overheat problem? The distance between flex fan turns with engine, is about 1.5 inches, thus, cannot use pull fans.

I have a 2005 Dodge 1500 2WD with 48K miles on it and have already had to turn the rotors once. The rotors on it are factory and were turned about 3000 miles ago. I have put about 25K miles on the truck over the past 1 1/2 that I've had the truck and the shaking started about 5000 miles ago. I understand that hard heavy breaking can cause them to scallop, but I have not had to do any heavy breaking nor have I ever even pulled anything with my truck.
