GM has this problem with not filling the fluids up all the way when they leave the factory, a big problem! most likely that is the problem, i have seen this before on the very same car. if it is the 3500or 3900 v6, there is a chance something could be damaged. They only hold 4 qts. of oil to begin with. take to the dealer, it is under warrenty

That's actually quite normal oil usage and will vary from engine to engine. Your engine would have to be using 1 quart in less than 1,000 miles before your GM dealer would acknowledge that it is not normal oil usage.

"Before we review the reasons why oil consumption occurs, it should be noted that a degree of consumption should be anticipated in all engines. What is considered normal or acceptable, however, will vary from one engine application to the next. For example, Ford Motor Company considers consumption as high as one quart of oil per 1000 miles to be acceptable in a gasoline engine."

Not okay at all. Keep checking the oil weekly. The car is obviously still under warranty so if it continues to burn oil, take it back to the dealer. Keep the receipts for all oil changes and other services.

KEEP AN EYE ON IT AS STATED ABOVE, AND YES THEY DO NOT ALWAYS FILL THE OIL UP COMPLETELY.

ALSO I NOTICED THAT WHEN MY NEIGHBOR TAKES HIS CHEVY TRUCK IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE WITH A 6.0 ENGINE THEY ALWAYS JUST PUT 5 QUARTS OF OIL IN IT, BUT IT SHOULD TAKE 6 QUARTS.

THE DEALER ALWAYS TELLS HIM THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

I TRIED TO TELL HIM THAT THIS IS INCORRECT BUT HE IS THE TYPE THAT BELIEVES THAT DEALER IS GOD AND THEY DO NOT MAKE ANY MISTAKES.
