It's not really good on your transmission. Just pay close attention to how it shifts (even an automatic) from now on. If it has any trouble, or takes more effort than normal, you might want to take it in to have it looked at. But if it was just a singular event then you're most likely fine. And like someone else said, you usually have to push the brake in order to get into reverse. Although, i have noticed a few times on my car (92 saturn) that i've been able to shift from neutral to reverse without the brake. (Happened by mistake once, and then i actually tried it once to see why it was possible.) Nothing bad has happened to me, but i was fully stopped during both shifts.
My advice, just listen to your car (turn the radio down just a bit) and treat it good an you'll be fine.

i have heard this story before so nothing bad from me lol. is as long as you car is like a 92 or newer, the rev-limiter should of kept your engine from overreving. as far as the reverse thing.....shouldn't have caused a problem. over the next couple days, listen for noises while the engine and transmission is still cold. If you hear something clicking or some kind of rattling, have it checked by your factory dealership, you got a problem then

I think you did not put it into reverse as all cars are now made so that they will not go into reverse at speeds over just a few miles per hour. I would doubt that you caused any problems at all.

& you didn't crash? Slapping it into reverse should have locked up tranny and sent you into a screeching front wheelie. If the car turned over and you were able to move forward after that, I'd take it to a reputable transmission place for a tune up...and let them tell you if anything melted together. (Just don't fall for the "shavings in the pan routine...there will always be shavings in the pan after awhile with normal driving)

Did the car actually go into reverse? Most cars are designed to not go into reverse or drive unless you put the brake on first.

Bad....bad....bad..
It's to a car...... like you chewing on tin foil. Ouch !
Only time will tell if your tranny is shot. I wouldn't take any long trips in this car.
