Maintenance & Repairs - September 2007

Its a chevy 350 engine & I looked under my cap & it was all corroded & rusty. So i took the cap, rotor button, & all the electronic coil stuff out of a new olds dist. All the parts LOOKED the same but it wouldnt start after I put it back together. I also changed out the advance thing too becasue it was rusted stuck. I didnt remove the shaft of the distributor from the engine so the timing should have been the same since I putr the cap back in the exact same place. It just cranks now.

I have replaced the headers on my car and tighten everything to the specs that it says in my repair manual. At first the car seems to be running good but then the ticking starts after the engine has been running. Now the ticking is non-stop and on top of that I have no power to my car.

I own a Crown Victoria. It had an oil leak (which Wal Mart did not think it was important to tell me each time I got the oil changed) and now the engine is blown. I do not know whether I should try to sell it, if someone is wanting to fix it up, sell it to a junk yard or donate it to goodwill.
My crown vic is a 1994, 115k, has power everything and leather interior. Of course, the drivers seat leather is cracked from not only being 13 years old but from the previous owner not really taking care of it. It has a cracked windshield, needs new tires and the bumper has a hole in it from being hit by a drunk driver.
I love the car but is it worth fixing? Should I try to sell it and just get a new car? Would I get anything if I donate it? I do not own a house or do any itemized deductions so would it benefit me? The junk yard is wanting to give me $80 bucks. . It think it is worth a little more than that. . . HELP!

I just installed a napa (upper) flexible radiator hose on my 1995 toyota pickup (NOT tacoma).

Because this hose is flexible, it gives me the impression that it is a little "flimsy", and makes me a little nervous.

Is this a good, or bad choice for a "bone stock" daily driver? Is this type (flexible) only meant for race applications?

The reason I went with a flexible radiator hose, is because with the rigid hose, when I rev my engine, the hose pulls on the radiator, causing (over a few months) the seem around the upper inlet (on the radiator)to separate.Because of this, I have gone through three (warrantied-THANK GOD!!) radiators.I also went with a radiator that recognizes this (what I call a design flaw) in the radiator, and therefore reinforced the seem around the upper inlet.

I have read/been told that the radiator seem separating is a common issue with toyota pick ups.


I have changed out both my motor mounts, and my transmission mount.

Should I go back with the "rigid" radiato

I've been using the COLDWELL from Walmart from the auto dept..., it says it's supposed to be permanent, I have a few tiny hairline cracks on the top of my radiator, that water steaming out of and causing it to run hot. So when I apply this Cold Well stuff on it , it works a few days then starts cracking off. The top portion of my radiator is that heavy black plastic. I don't know why it's made of plastic in the first place. But what can I use that would work and stay on there? any suggestion....! Thank you.

so i went to goodyear to have my brakes check because whenever i had to reverse or backup it squeks a lot...well they told me that if i wanted the squeking to go away they had to resurface the rotors...they gave me the estimate to how much i would pay to resurface..it would cost $300plus(forgot the exact estimate)does it really cost that much to resurface a rotor...do you guys think i should just leaving it alone and wait for the squeking to go away....any advice

I have a VW Golf, and I could compromise some power for better gas mileage. A guy I know said he'd adjusted something on his buick and upped the fuel economy a lot.

Scared. What's the worst thing that can happen if...?

There is air in the radiator system? I replaced a top radiator hose, ran the car for 10-12 minutes with the radiator cap off after topping up the overflow tank and the radiator. I need to know if it's okay to drive my car now. I'm not a mechanic, just a single mom without the $80 to spend to have a mechanic do this hose thing for me...is my car really ok now, can I drive it? Is it a danger to me personally if there is some air in the system, if I didn't get every last bubble out? Will a few air bubbles blow up my car? Seriously, I am so nervous about this. Thanks for help...

The most recent problem is that the engine temp gauge goes up to the red and the check engine light goes on, but it isn't overheating, it blows no fluid and makes no noise. As soon as it gets to the red, the needle drops to cold and the car stops putting out heat (through the heater) and I only get cold air all the time we've replaced the thermostat and still no luck still always cold air even in summer what the problem also when idleing my oil pressure gauge drops down and the oil in my car was just changed we've just replaced the tansmission filter and it raddles and shakes terrible idleing.

I'm watching Tokyo Drift right now and I just don't understand how they can afford all those tires. The one guy went through 4 sets in one day. Are tires really cheap in Japan? 17" high performance tires start at about $500 for a set of decent ones.
