Yes, today’s engines to be more fuel efficient need better lubrication to have correct combustion timing. However you can kill two birds with one stone. Use Mobil 1 extended life. It is almost $5.00 a bottle however its rated to last 15,000 miles that’s three oil changes. So one oil change with mobil one extended performance means $40-$45 dollars in oil but you don’t need a change until 15,000 miles. And BMW and Mercedes-Benz use it also and there cars oils are changed at 10,000 to 15,000 mile intervals unlike other cars at 5,000 or 3,000. Hope it helps.

Wayne, I don't want any points but for gosh sakes DO NOT, drive your car past the recommended engine oil drain intervals.
Guys who give you this type of answer have been reading too many magazine adds or read labels on oil cans in stores.
Cadillac will dump your new car warranty into the street if you have a drive-train problem concerning your engine if anything should happen. They'll look at your service records and find that you haven't changed your oil as per the service schedule.
What you do is your business after your 100,000 mile or 5 yr. power-train warranty. For now, do all you can to protect yourself and the car.
Certainly synthetic oil would be a better choice as it is superior in every category. It flows at lower temperatures, has better detergent and anti-wear properties and will keep the engine cooler as synthetic oil adsorbs frictional heat and cylinder wall temperatures more efficiently. Since it it's a fact it creates less friction you may get better fuel economy.

Under ideal conditions companies such as Amsoil "claims" you can drive 25,000 between oil changes under ideal conditions. Do you expect them to repair your new Caddy if something goes wrong. Heck no they'll run for the hills like Casper the Ghost!

Any oil is very cheap insurance. It's risky to stretch a shot in the dark beyond the dealers rather generous mileage designations.

What does the owners manual/manufacturer recomend? Would calling the dealer be to much trouble?
