fifty dollars is about right to resurface 2 rotors the price they gave you would be to replace them and still have money left over.

Well first off you should have told your make of car. If the squeeking only occurs while backing up it doesnt sound like a rotor problem. I had a friend and his Ford pickup would squeek in reverse and he had a bad U-joint. Now if it does it all the time it is probably your brake pads they have a small peice of metal that squeeks when the pads get worn out. Usually a sign of bad rotors is a shudder or vibration only while braking. Even at that manufacturers dont do much resurfacing anymore as it is cheaper tho just remove and replace rotors. Good Luck.

many situations the steel guard in the back of the rotor cleared appropriate with the older thinner rotor and once you place on new thicker rotors the steel merely touches the lower back element of the rotor and makes a heck of a noise that ought to alter while turning and braking. you will be able to desire to do away with the wheel the place you hear the noise and positioned a pair lug nuts on the rotor finger tight and look down in the back of the rotor and gently bend that steel guard faraway from the rotor suitable and backside. you basically desire a small hollow. sturdy success

So what's so bad about a little squeak? If only does it when you back up. Two things cause brake squeal. One is worn out brake pads. Replace worn out pads. That's a no brain-er. The second is dust that naturally get on the pads. They are not like the old shoe brakes that were protected from dust and dirt by the drums. And there is two things that will get rid of dust on disc brakes. Either take the pads off and sand the surface, or just take the vehicle out and do three or four really quick stops to burn off the dust. The second one is what I do and it doesn't cost me a penny.

Wished you had given us the make and model of your car.............or truck??, on average, machineing a rotor is normally around 20 or 25 dollars, plus labour to either get them off the vehical, or set up the on car machine, not really sure if that is causeing your noise though, most brake noises are caused by the disc pads rubbing against either the caliper piston, in which case there is a silicone spray which will take that away, or by the pads rubbing aginst their supports, in which case clips are available and can be installed to take the noise away

The squeaking only occurs when you are in Reverse or backing up?

look for a bad Ujoint and have the brake dust cleanedd out of the rear drums front rotors only squeal when the brakes are applied aor the pads are worn out.

my advise is they have no idea what they are talking about and are trying to throw parts at it. the squeal is the result of metal to metal contact, most likly from a brake pad shim, or clip. brake pads also have whats called squealers which squeal when the tires are rotating to let you know the brakes are getting low. 300 dollars is outragious for machining rotors. it takes under an hour to do on a lathe. kragen auto parts and most shops will do it for 15.00 to 25.00 per rotor if you can bring them in. my advise is to go to a different shop.

Sounds like someone is trying to shoot you through the grease. I would go somewhere else or better yet, replace the rotors with new ones. I replaced mine with upgraded drilled and slotted rotors for under $100 per axle. I also suggest ceramic pads.

Go to any Autozone or Oreilley auto parts they usually charge anywhere from $5-$10 and if you take the part early before 3 pm the job gets done in about 30 min.
