For reasons unknown to me, the clutch & clutch release bearing in my '05 Accord Coupe needs replaced. Dealer wants $1360 for parts and labor. I've already had it towed there, so I'm probably gonna go ahead and let them do the work. The part that sucks is that my warranty just expired (36,000 mi. warranty...mileage is currently at 39,010) I bought the car (certified pre-owned from the same dealer) only 9 months ago...it had 29k miles at the time.

What would cause the clutch to go bad in a low mileage 2005 Honda? Any other thoughts on the matter?

I consider myself proficient with a stick shift...so any extensive wear to the clutch was probably caused by the original owner.

I did not buy an extended warranty...thinking my certified pre-owned would last several years without any major repairs. Perhaps that was naive thinking on my part.

its probably the way it was treated by the previous owner before you got it,it may have had a hard life,if your good at driving a standard shift car,the new clutch should last you well over 200 k if not more, the previous owner may not have been good at driving a manual shift, and his takes a lot of wear and tear off the clutch assembly,id say you,ll have better luck from it,i have to say though ,that's really high for replacing a clutch and pressure plate, their labor rate must be really high, good luck with it.

Price seems about right coming from a Honda Dealership.

Previous owner probably was abusive and maybe didn't know how to drive manual. Or he just kept pounding on it, cause he didn't care. Many possibilities.

So your gonna get the release bearing, clutch disc, pressure plate done. Probably a good idea at least you know it's new and you dont have to worry about it. While your there, I dont know if they would throw in a tranny flush along with it. See how much extra they would charge for it, or is it included?

It sucks to pay it out right now, but in the long run I think you will be thankful. The car should last you a long time.

Well that is a very hard question I really like the TL but the accord is nice to but I have not seen a 2009 accord so I think you should find a accord and a TL that you would be interested in and go and try out both cars and see witch one you feel most comfortable in also witch ever one you think drives the best but in the end there both really nice cars. The car I want is the pontiac solstice you should look at those as well GOOD LUCK.

alot of things including resting your foot on it. actually if abused clutches can be destroyed with less mileage then that. stop and go traffic can be the downfall of the clutch. clutch are normally are not covered under the warranty. i have owned numerous manual transmission vehicles-never had to replace a clutch (knock-on-wood)

I recommend you take a closer look at your certified pre-owned warranty, especially if you just purchased it 9 months ago.

According to this information here:
http://automobiles.honda.com/certified-used/warranty.aspx

Honda will warranty a certified pre-owned vehicle for 7 years (from original sales date)/100K miles.

If this is the case, your car is still under warranty and should be repaired for free.

What could cause the clutch to go bad so early?
