My 1990 Acura wouldn't start one afternoon. I tried a few times that day and also the next day. The engine would crank strongly - the lights did not dim, but it wouldn't start. Out of the blue the next morning I got it to stat right away. I took it to the repair shop anyway because I want a reliable car and don't want to be stranded anywhere again. He found nothing wrong with it so far because it started for him. Of course there's a charge of $100 to diagnose it. What should I do? I don't want to play russian roulette with my car either starting or stalling. It hasn't given me problems the last 6 years.

My A.C. clutch has broken. I have found a replacement pulley at autozone. The a.c. wont work, but I could still drive my car. How much trouble would it be to take out the compressor, and replace it with just the pulley, and how much should I expect to pay if I cant do it? The car is a 1996 ford taurus with a 3.0

I can't beleive tightening it doesn't fix the problem, I need a new belt don't I?

I took my 94 Chevy 1500 into the shop the other day becasue it was bunring water. The mechanic is a friend of my dad, so i took it to him. He took the heads off, and the gasket was causing the leak. He quoted me $900 for a new gasket set and labor. His book said it would take 13 hours to repair it, so that is where he got that price from. Can you believe its that high? Or that it would take 13 hours? Ive quoted anothe shop and he was only geussing under $500! Is anyone a mechanic who could tell me how much it would be in your area, or has anyone had this done recently?

I just took my 1996 Nissan 200sx to a mechanic because of a small oil leak that happens only when I leave the car on for a while. The mechanic said right away that the reason for the oil leak is because of the head gasket, and then he pointed out the grease. I told him if it was just a seal and he said that these types of gaskets are whole, and that I would have to replace the whole thing which would cost $200 for the part alone. Does this sound right? Is it really the gasket and if so, do I really have to replace the whole thing? How much would the labor cost for a job like this? Thank you all for your help!

At Sears they replaced my pads and turned my rotors, but a few days later my right front wheel started squeaking (like a mattress) and then grinding (like an old, rusty door hinge), even after the 500 miles Sears wanted me to wait because some sounds were normal after new pads. There were grooves cut into my rotor (2003 Mazda Protege5, front and rear disk breaks) by the time I brought it in. They turned the rotor and it was fine, but then a couple of days later- same noise. They then replaced the pad, saying was defective. A couple of days later, continuing up to now (2 weeks/ 450 miles later) SAME PROBLEM! Help!

ps When I drive through a puddle (often in Orlando, FL), the noise disappears completely for a little while.

I own a 2001 Lexus IS 300 4-door sedan. My O2 sensor is bad. The Lexus dealership wants to charge $400 to replace it. Is that too much? I've looked the part up on the inernet, however I've seen it range from $44 to $125. How do I know which one to get and the differences?

I have been chasing a short in the system for some time now. Everytime I would turn my A/C on, it would cook a resistor on the ECM. All wires and ground have been tested as well as relays etc... So today I'm giving the car another look and I notice the wires on the alternator are on the wrong terminals. The "IG" terminal and the "S" terminal were switched. What would happen if these two wires were switched and a load was applied to them? Fry an ECM? (possibly) 94 Celica GT, M/T

The sockets used to work; after an accident on the passenger side and some body repair the fuse keeps blowing. Maybe a wire is shorting? If so how would I find it? I don't have a wiring schematic.

I am replacing my 1988 Honda CRX SI 1.6 Manual Transmission's radiator with a automatic radiator. Can I use the built in transmission coolor for a oil cooler since there is no need for it on a manual? It has rubber hose nipples unlike the normal threaded transmission lines on most radiators. Everything fits, I just didn't know if the pressures are different or oil isn't compatible with that cooler because of the thickness or something. Will it work? Thanks in advance!

I think it used to have keyless entry. Now if you lock the doors, the alarm goes off for like 5 minutes whenever you unlock them with the key and open the door. it will go off again whenever you open the door again, until the door has been opened and closed (and the alarm has sounded) 5 times. If it can't be disabled, are there any tricks maybe to at least shut the alarm up after it has been triggered ?
