I have a 2000 Chevy Cav that died on me today. I was driving and it just stalled, and won't restart. I still seem to have power since the lights and radio are still working. I've just had the spark plugs replaced so I know that isn't the problem. Anyways it turns over but just won't start. Someone had suggested it was the starter motor... does that sound right? Is that costly? Is it easy to replace? I don't know too much about cars but have a friend coming out from the U.K. in a few days who does and would like to have some ideas about what is wrong. :)
Thanks

I have a 04 stratus with an after market Viper Alarm. I'm not the original owner of the vehicle so I don't know the commands on the remote. I used to be able to hold down the aux key and it would crack my windows and if I kept holding it down the windows would roll all the way down, did this in order to ventilate the car on hot days. Well since this weekend I have been unable to roll any of the windows down using the controls on the drivers door and the remote feature also stopped working. I know the window work because the passengers can roll their windows down with their controls. So is it the pad on my door that stopped working or is it something on my alarm? I had my nephews over and they may have played with my remote.

Sorry for the long post, thanks for the help!!

I own a 1995 Buick LeSabre. Today I was driving and when I tried to brake, the car wouldn't stop as it normally does. Instead, I had to push the brakes all the way down to get the car to stop. At first I thought my brake fluid must be low, but I checked the fluid level and it is full (I haven't added any since I bought the car three months ago and it's still full. Is this normal?). Does anyone know what the problem is so that I can save myself from being ripped off by a mechanic? Could something be preventing the brake fluid from getting to the brakes? Could the pads be bad? Or could it be something else?

When I change the engine of my car, will the odometer be automatically reset or should we have to reset it manually? I have a Ford Crown Victoria 1993 model. I bought it from a colleague recently and the car is running pretty smoothly. My colleague told me that the engine was changed recently. The car has covered 2,30,000 miles. Is there a possibility that odometer was not reset when the engine was changed or does that get reset automatically?

I have an 02 Nissan maxima with 128000 miles on it. I just recently changed the spark plugs on it and after that I started having some problems

The first problem was that my RPM gauge went out.

Second problem was that my SERVICE ENGINE SOON light was on and it would take about 10 seconds until the car had started.

I took it to autozone and they read the SES lights that were on and it said that i needed a new

Crankshaft Position Sensor P0725 and an Engine Speed input Circuit Malfunction.

My problem is i have no clue where it is LOCATED and how to replace it.

Thanks!

Andrew

THe truck has 109500 miles on the clock. The manufacturers recommendation is 5w30. I have a friend who owns a lube shop and he says that I should be using 15w40 and that the only reason that the manufacturers recommend 5w30 is because that is how they maximize mpg and in order to advertise that they get that much per gallon they have to reccomend the oil type that will allow that, but thicker oil is better for the engine. A mechanic friend of mine said I should use thicker oil like 10w30 or 10w40. I aksed the people at Jiffy Lube and they said that I should use 5w30 and that if I use thicker oil it is going to make my engine wear quicker because the engine will have to work harder. I am getting mixed information here. I just need someone who knows what the hell they are talking about to explain to me what to use and why. Are there any experts out there who can please help me? Thanks.

My mom has a 2002 Honda Civic LX Sedan, and when she takes out the key and when the door is open is makes a long, sharp peircing "BEEEEEEEP" noise. I thought it was the headlights on, because when the headlights are on it makes that noise when the door is open, but that wasn't the case. It makes a long beeeeep noise with the key out, headlights off, and door open, when the door is closed it stops. My dad is a mechanic but he's not home to do it himself, he just told me to spray WD40 inside the key hole and stick the key in and out and lubricate it because something might be stuck. Should I be doing that? Or what's wrong?

I have a 1997 Nissan Altima with 195,000 miles and the original clutch. Just recently, it has been doing some strange things. For example, if I am in third gear and speed up, the RPM's will go really, really high and then it will level out where it should be. When I am in first and just starting to move, I give it tons of gas and it doesn't take off like it used to. The RPM's go way up at strange times and I am smelling burnt rubber. I still have no problem shifting, the pedal is still easy to push and it doesn't slip out of gear. Any suggestions?
