I have an 02 Nissan maxima with 128000 miles on it. I just recently changed the spark plugs on it and after that I started having some problems

The first problem was that my RPM gauge went out.

Second problem was that my SERVICE ENGINE SOON light was on and it would take about 10 seconds until the car had started.

I took it to autozone and they read the SES lights that were on and it said that i needed a new

Crankshaft Position Sensor P0725 and an Engine Speed input Circuit Malfunction.

My problem is i have no clue where it is LOCATED and how to replace it.

Thanks!

Andrew

.That sensor is located between the engine and transmission on the front side viewed from front under the car held down with a 10mm bolt and two wire connector black in color. the is a semicircular rubber gasket that is also in the hole. This sensor reads a ring made onto the flywheel/flex plate. And your car is running off the cam sensor. Easy to change good Luck some times the wire or connector just need repairing

you should get someone to check for a code on you car.... try checking you fuel pressure regulator. It should be on top of the manifold off to the driver side. Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and see if you can smell gasoline in the hose. If you do, this needs to be replaced. Now ... the crankshaft sensor will affect electrical firing while the camshaft affects fuel injectors... Try using the spark test... get a spark plug tester ( I guess about $10) and pull a sparkplug wire. and plug the tester in it and ground it... do you see spark ? Yes - crankshaft sensor is OK... NO ? then you need to look at the Crankshaft sensor, ignition module, coils... ( anything electrical). Also if you are getting spark, then it is fuel related... just because you get fuel doesn't mean the injectors are working... NOTE: the injectors are likely to be OK because they go bad one at a time and the engine will run rough... so if you have spark... the fuel things to look at is camshaft sensor or the fuel pressure regulator.

The sensor is inside the distributor. If you aren't VERY astute, take it to a reputable shop for proper repairs.

Either take it to a qualified mechanic who knows what he is doing, or bite the bullet, hold on to your wallet, and take it to a dealer and pay through the nose. But don't keep driving it and ruin a perfectly good vehicle by neglecting it.
