Why there is ice on the evaporator of car air conditioner. Car is Mitsubishi Lancer 2000.

Ice clogs the air flow and the entire system does not work. How can i solve this problem?

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like you're low on refrigerant. But you need to stop trying to run the AC until the ice completely melts, then get some more refrigerant put in (as long as you don't have any leaks in the line) and that should stop happening.

The low pressure switch probably needs to be replaced or adjusted.

Until you get it fixed you can turn off the a/c but leave the fan on for 2 minutes or so every 10 minutes of a/c use.

Good luck

it may be a clogged orifice tube (filter in the A/C line) It needs to be evacuated and the orifice cleaned or replaced, and recharged with the proper amount of refrigerant. Then the system should work fine.

your system is either low, most likely or your expsansion valve is defective and thats in the evaporator box.
