the r12 freon must be evacuated completely, the fittings must be changed, the system must be flushed, and the receiver/dryer must be changed, then you can use the r134a with the proper type, and amount of refrigerant oil. I would not recommend attempting this yourself. someone trained and licensed to handle the r12 should do this. also if you are asking this question, this vehicle is fairly old, and the system probably leaks. the mechanic should be able to find and fix that too.

Yes but you have to have the system converted by someone who is licensed to handle R12 freon.

YES U CAN AND THEY DONT SELL R12 ANYMORE U WOULD HAVE 2 HAVE A LICENSED TECH FOR THE R12 AND IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE.

No. However, there are conversion kits that will allow you to modify your R12 system to use R134. I have never used one but have seen them in JCWhitney and other catalogs.

I know they use different desiccant and different oil and change fittings. I have never tried it.

Nope, it will ruin your A/C system. It must be converted to be able to use it ($200).
