Take the hold down clamp off and pull up. You may need to tap up on it with a mallet or other handy object. WARNING: there is a rod that runs from the bottom of the dist to the oil pump that will fall into the oil pan if you aren't care full. When you pull the dist make sure the rod (it's hex shaped). If you start the motor with it in your oil pan you won't have any pressure, that's bad.

those answers are correct but my 2 cents worth, I just fought a distributor in a 289 ford as it was stuck, I took some PB BLASTER and soaked it for a little while and slowly started working it back and forth until it finally let loose.

first off bring cyl number one to top dead center...observing direction rotor points to..mark a spot on intake to help in returning it to correct position...then remove distributor hold down bolt at base of dist...then pull up...some times you may have to tap lightly on base of dist to free it...

REMOVE HOLD DOWN BRACKET, SPRAY PB BLASTER AROUND DISTRIBUTOR, TAP WITH SMALL RUBBER MALLET AND REMOVE.
