I recently took the muffler of of my Toyota pickup (4-cylinder, 2.4 liter). It is very loud at the moment. I was wondering if I would extend straight pipes to the back of the truck (about 6 or 7 feet) would that muffle the noise and make it better, or would it still be the same?

we drive a 1995 mercury cougar xr7 and the brake line recentl started leaking. we believe it is due to it rusting out since its right along the bottom of the car on the drivers side where the emergency brake line runs. we're getting it repaired this afternoon. any ideas approximately how long this takes and cost of supplies. the shop i bring it to charges $56/hr for labor i believe. our appt is at 1 pm and they close at 5 pm so i was just wondering if we may be getting it back before closing time and have it for the weekend or if its a big job and it will be stuck there. thanks so much

I have been having problems with my transmission lurching forward on my Jaguar S Type 2003. They have flashed the transmission control module 6 times, changed the transmission and now they tell me its an anti knock sensor. The car lurches forward violently when switching gears. Its an automatic. My question is what is an anti knock sensor and how will it stop the car from lurching?

I have a 1992 Toyota Celica GT and I'm wondering how often to do the tune up. The last tune up was in late January.

I backed out of a parking spot and started driving forward and heard a noise that sounded like i ran over a piece of plastic or fiberglass. I drove the car about a hundred yards and parked it to figure out what was going on. When i got out of the car i saw a trail of oil and when i looked under the car i saw what appeared to be all of my valvoline running out onto the ground. The oil plug is still in and the filter is fine, and the area around it is dry, so i dont think its the oil pressure sending unit, but i cant really get a good look at it as i cant get the car in the air right now. the motor is still running smooth, so my original fears that i broke a connecting rod have passed, but i have no idea what it could be.The oil appears to be coming from the front side of the motor, below the exaust manifold. there is still a little oil left, just not enough to read on the dip stick. I actually drove the car a couple blocks to get it home, it hitched a couple times but otherwise ran fine

first off i was wondering if the size of truck (1500,2500,etc.) has anything to do with the actual metal body of the truck bed. for ex. would a 1500 bed work on a 2500 truck ( if the beds were same size)? my other question, i would like to put a thiner 8 ft. bed, with wheel wells on the outside, on my full size 8ft. bed with wheel wells on the inside. can you do this?

2004 GMC Seirra pickup.
Sometimes while I am braking and turning at the same time, there is this wierd jumping feeling, it almost feels exsactly like if I had something very heavy in my truck bed, and it slid forward and banged against the back of the cab, or the back wheels bounced off the ground sideways (I know they didnt). It only happens if I have been driving at highway speeds, and I slow down a little faster than average. Not slamming on my brakes but just a quicker stop like if your about to miss a turn or something. Any ideas?

Theres a "crack in the cylinder head". i didn't even know anything was wrong until i got my Ford explorer checked for it's 135k maintenance. They want $3000 for it - screw that, the car's 12 years old and I'm just gonna get a new one in a few months. Anyways, I want to know if it's safe to drive it from Seattle to Phoenix and back. if i check (and add if necessary) the coolant every time I get gas will i be fine?

2001 Ford Mustang V6 Automatic 63,500 miles. When I start it up it makes a ticking noise. (My boyfriend said that's just how my engine sounds). When driving it runs kind of sluggish especially when Im going up a hill which is weird, because it's a Mustang. My mom's crappy Saturn doesn't even do that. It sounds like it's trying really hard to get up hills. When I hit 35 mph or 65 mph(Usually I think when it's shifiting gears) it kicks and jerks almost(Not erratically or in a dangerous way). I am taking it in tomorrow to get it checked out, but I wanted to get an idea of what it could be. I don't know if the ticking thing is bad or not. The kicking feels like if you were in a bumper car and someone bumped you from behind. It's never been in an accident, no mods, the check engine light has never come on. I haven't gotten an oil change recently(going tomorrow). I live in Atlanta, so I don't know if GA heat is a factor. ANY help, IM me on AIM: dcxbabe or Comment! Please!

About two months ago I purchased a '94 Honda Civic with about 150k on the odometer. Yesterday on the hottest day of the year (heat index was 110), my car overheated. I threw the heat on and luckily that got me two blocks to my apartment. My boyfriend is really knowledgeable with cars took a look at it. We added coolant, he checked some fuses, etc. Nothing is leaking, the hose on the top is hot so we figure the thermostat is working, the coolant is the beautiful green color that came out of the bottle, so that means there is no corrosion. What we can't figure out is a) which part is faulty, and b) when we throw the heat on, it never gets hot. It gets this tepid warm but we aren't getting the raging heat coming off the engine. I checked the oil to make sure that I didn't pop a gasket and get fluid into the engine... dipstick came out fine. We also took it for a test drive after adding the fluid and the temp really spikes when we put the air on. Thoughts?

My 1996 Nissan 200sx has a small motor oil leak that happens only when the car is left on and it's apparently dew to a faulty oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket. Could this be the reason why my check engine light is on? Any other common reasons why I might have my check engine light on and could this be very serious? Is it probably dew to my faulty gaskets? The car seems to run fine without much engine noise, it only has about 121k miles on it and it has recently had a tune up. Thank you all for your help!

Okay, here's the problem. The dumba** 14 year old next door decided it would be a brilliant idea to walk over the top of my car a couple days ago. Now there are little dents on the roof in several places around the edges of where his shoes were plus a larger one (like maybe the size a baseball would make?) right above the back windshield on the roof and then some more smaller ones and one maybe ping pong ball sized on the trunk. So I'm trying to get estimates to make the parents pay for the damage. I went to a dealer recommended body shop and their estimate was about $820 because they said they would have to I guess remove the roof and trunk panels to get the dents out and then repaint them. I went to another body shop that a friend recommended and they gave me an estimate of about $385 and said they could do it by going through the interior of the roof and they didn't need to repaint. But now I've had two people say that using the cheaper way will still show where the dents were.
