Could be coolant. But if it went suddenly, you might like to check the fusebox..

Checking the fuses is a good idea, I would do that first, but judging by the age of your car, you most likely have a refrigerant leak. The best thing to do is have a shop add refrigerant and leak detector. This will help determine what parts are leaking (if any).
As someone else mentioned check and see if the compressor is working. The middle part of the front of the pulley should be spinning when the a/c is on. It should click off and on. An electrical problem, or low pressure could cause it to not work.
Good luck.

It could be just a fuse. However, if the compressor is bad, adding freon will not fix the problem.
Does it blow but worm air? Because if it doesn't blow a all, it mean your blower is not functioning. If that's the case, check the fuse or replace blower motor.
Good luck!

Turn the AC on and start the engine. Open the hood, and take a look at the compressor. Is the clutch engaged and is the center part of the compressor pulley turning? If it is, and you aren't getting cold air, then take it to a shop and have it repaired. Good luck.

97 Expeditions have a cabin air filter in them, which no one seems to know about. It could be plugged. It is located under the glove box, and costs about $35.00 at most parts stores. If that doesn't fix it, then you need to take it to a REPUTABLE shop for service.
Good Luck
