Can a fuel pump not be working even if it sounds if it's coming on my 88 buick park avenue acts like it want to start but seems like no fuel is getting to it but i can hear the fuel pump kicking on any suggestions.

it can be coming on but not pumping enough to open the regulator on it,that will cause it not to start,a dirty fuel filter will also cause it to not start like that ,you need to have it checked and see if it has any fuel pressure at all on it,good luck with it.

on your engine if you find the fuel rail on top..
you will see a cap that looks like a cap to a tire valve...
unscrew this cap and push in the needle with a pen./....
if no fuel comes out have someone crank the engine for 1 or 2 secs
if no fuel still comes out it is in the fuel pump
if fuel squirts out you have other problems
possible spark or injector pulse

Check the fuel filter, it may be clogged. Check the fuel pressure. It could be the fuel pump. You may still hear it running , but it may not have enough pressure...

yes i have the same problem i hear it and it has a problem starting but i get it started and it very low on power have the fule pump relay checked first it helped a friend of mine and now its fine if its the fule pump it can cost a lot of $$$ i have 99 dodge neon hope this helps and god bless

you could have a blockage around your pick up point in your tank ... get your tank and lines flushed clean
