I recently took the muffler of of my Toyota pickup (4-cylinder, 2.4 liter). It is very loud at the moment. I was wondering if I would extend straight pipes to the back of the truck (about 6 or 7 feet) would that muffle the noise and make it better, or would it still be the same?

go to a auto parts store and tell them you want a glass pack........ its only 20bucks, and u weld it on.........
the reason a motor sounds good.......is the muffler is .......tuned........
bet you will like the way it sounds!
Drive it till its good and hot.......then spray water on the muffler"glass pack"
it will make the inside crackle and will be loud again........but in tune....

It would just move the sound back away from the cab, but only be a tiny bit less loud. You need baffles to lessen sound, but then you have a muffler, not a straight pipe!

It will sound better . It will be just as loud and painful to drive.
