Dont know much about cars?

Question

Again, I have a 1992 toyota celica gt. I always see these cherry bombs and air intakes and all this other stuff at pep boys that i know is supposed to make you car run faster and better. thats pretty much all i know about them. Can somone tell me these different things are and what they do?

all these parts u see at pep boys are mostly for american cars or theyre cheap knock off's, if you want to make ur celica gt faster, hopefully its a stick.. get a aem short ram intake, headers, a catback exhaust thats made for ur car not some cherry bomb or weld on mufflers, better spark plug and spark plug wires , thats a start

Air intakes and cherry bombs. Well, for starters, Pep Boys is not the place you want to shop for aftermarket automotive performance accessories. Your particular desires or needs need to be in your mind when buying anything for your car. A cherry bomb is simple. It replaces your original "Can" muffler, which is literally a can with a maze of filtration components stuffed into it, and replaces it with a Cherry bomb or straight pipe. Your exaust will not have "as much" restriction theoretically causing your vehicle to preform much better. This is definantly not true. A cherry bomb will make your prized automotive sound like a cheep "derby" car. Now, a air intake is alittle different. A vehicle is like your body. You need air to breath, food for fuel, and a way to release burnt fuel (poop), simple put. An air intake will increase one aspect of this equation. It will give usually the biggest increase in power, and the best sound not to mention look great. Go for quality. Look in a preformance magazine for the best results. To make your ride even faster, bigger fuel injectors, (spray nozels that regulate the amount of fuel being shot into your motor), fuel rail, fuel filter,and pump. Having done that, exaust manifold (release of burnt fuel remember), with a new pipe and exaust can. This seems like alot, but you won't pay that much and this is all easily installed. Let me leave you with this: Find which vehicle you passion the most. Use what you have now til the wheels fall off, put your hard earned money in something you plan on keeping a while.1k here could mean saving longer for that dream car later. I hope this helped..AP

all a cherry bomb does is change the tone of the exhaust. the intake setup is supposed to increase the airflow capability of the engine, giving you a greater horse power capability. does not mean that it always works. if you have a small 4 popper, and ill bet you do (either th 1.8 or the2.2l id bet) you are not going to feel a great difference in that set up until you do some real work, like increase fuel, air or a few other tricks.
