we drive a 1995 mercury cougar xr7 and the brake line recentl started leaking. we believe it is due to it rusting out since its right along the bottom of the car on the drivers side where the emergency brake line runs. we're getting it repaired this afternoon. any ideas approximately how long this takes and cost of supplies. the shop i bring it to charges $56/hr for labor i believe. our appt is at 1 pm and they close at 5 pm so i was just wondering if we may be getting it back before closing time and have it for the weekend or if its a big job and it will be stuck there. thanks so much

You might bring it in at 1pm, but the mechanic may still be on another job. The job itself is not that big, so I would think that you should be able to get it back before closing time. Be sure to ask the service manager when you take it in.

It is not a bad idea to flush the brake fluid every several years. The fluid will absorb moisture and that may cause the fluid to boil when hot and put air into the system. The moisture will also attack the brake lines and cause corrosion. It is a maintenance item that is oft over looked.

good luck with the repair.

i could get it fixed now. See in case you may get a deal because of the fact the autos already interior the shop. they'll shop time and you will shop $$ I had this difficulty on my ninety 4 Taurus final wintry climate. My brakes went to the floor and the automobile could infrequently provide up. would have killed myself. have been given under the automobile and chanced on all the brake lines had corroded badly, one had cut up huge open because of the brake line tension. it rather is an exceptionally difficult interest to repair this. I did it myself (i'm an extremely stepped forward DIY'r and Mechanical Engineer) you may no longer purchase brake lines for those autos, you may lead them to as you pass. i ended up having to rigorously bend and fit 30 feet of brake line to do the interest. Ended up changing the rear calipers and rotors besides. good success, stay secure Astrobuf

Depends on how long the pieces they have replace. It will take one to two hours to fix a brake line. The material is not very expensive. I am guessing you bill will be $80-$140.
