Can bad gas really make a car stall, lights flicker, and the steering wheel buckle?

2007-08-09 13:39:46 · 5 answers · asked by Jaclyn T 2 in Cars & Transportation Maintenance & Repairs

The steering wheel buckled, black smoke came out of the muffler/exhaust, the car smelled horribly of gas. Lights flickered on and off, and it began bucking a bit down the road. The car didn't completely turn off, it just rolled along the road with everything still on. Then the meter gauges (it's 99 pontiac grand prix and has the mileage left to gallon thing on) said 999 miles to the gallon left. It was just odd.

Could it be the fuel injector?

Stall - maybe, if there's water in it.
The rest - You're kidding right?

Not sure ... a buddy of mine who works with planes told me gas grades really don't make a difference anyone will notice at the Octane Ratings we currently have at gas stations.
