I have been chasing a short in the system for some time now. Everytime I would turn my A/C on, it would cook a resistor on the ECM. All wires and ground have been tested as well as relays etc... So today I'm giving the car another look and I notice the wires on the alternator are on the wrong terminals. The "IG" terminal and the "S" terminal were switched. What would happen if these two wires were switched and a load was applied to them? Fry an ECM? (possibly) 94 Celica GT, M/T

Good question. But your hypothisis is right. Any voltage spike can and will fry an ECM. The only thing I can imagin is a voltage is reversing itself into the ECM and since the field wire is a ground actually, voltage could be returning into the ground side of the ECM or a low valtage side......
