I am an ASE certified mechanic. I relaced the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets in a 98 Chevrolet Malibu, with a 3.1.
We all know these had a problem from the get go. After replacing the gaskets, the fuel guage went all the way around
and pegged at the BOTTOM side of the stop. Any ideas what
caused this, and how to fix? I haven't had a guage act like this before!

Can anyone tell me which blower is better a 177 or a 471 super charger. As I want to put one on my new 350 chev crate motor i WON'T be using too much boost as the engine does not have too many goodies ( 8.5 comp , 4 bolt mains etc )
Any advise would be appreciated.

While I was driving my temperature gauge was
showing one line before red zone. Quickly I've
realized that my fan is not working properly because
there is no juice in my battery. Also, as it is not good to turn the engine off, I've found down hill way and let it cool to about line above 90. After that took a free road and took it down to 90.

When I was at home it went back to line before red zone. I've parked the car and turned it off.

**** I was thinking at that moment that it is good to
open radiator cap to released pressure. I did it slowly and the boiling coolant pored out.
*** Before I’ve opened it, the water wasn’t boiling. I know that pressure in the system eeps the boiling level of the coolant on higher level.

*** Was opening the radiator cap good idea?
*** Why was coolant boiling when I’ve opened the radiator cap as engine was not in the red zone.
*** Was my engine overheated?
*** Can it overheat before the red zone?

Van is paid for, not rusted, has no leaks, still looks like new. But could need a $500.00 or more car repair. Can't afford new, but I do have 5.500 to put on another one. But I can't get a loan because I have bad credit. What should I do?

My van is in need of about $500.00+ repair. It keeps dying on me. It's never done this before. It will start sometimes, and won't stay started then just die. I've kept this van up with frequent maintance. The mini van is 11 years old, I've had the transmission rebuilt, the 6 leaks under it guaranteed to never leak again and it hasn't, new breaks, belts hoses, serpentine belt, timing chain, distributor cap, battery, front axel, tires, it has 90,000 miles on it, it's never been wrecked, the oil in the engine is crystal clear, it's not gummy, or sandy, should I buy another used car that's newer, or stay where I'm at and keep fixing this one? It's paid for. (The reason it had the axel replaced is the former owners drove it alot) When I bought it it had 22,000 miles on it. Now it has 90,000. I've had it 8 years and drove it about 8000 miles a year. The blue book value of it is 2000.00 thats what I've been offered for it twice, but I'm not sure if I want to take it. What's your opinion

Can anybody tell me what the engine number stamped on the front of my new 350 crate engine beside the water pump connections is.Is it a new actual engine number or is it a stamped number which corresponds to where it was built , month & day.
If it is the place of manufacture etc where does the actual engine number get stamped.

I am desparately trying to get my husbands car overhauled somehow for him. It is his only source of transportation and is falling apart. It is his "baby", 69 el camino, that he has had since approx 1975. We are so financially challenged and it needs almost everything as you can guess by it's age. He brought his now 16 y/o home from the hospital in this car so you can imagine his attachment. I applied to overhaulin but of course no luck. Any ideas? His bd is coming up and i would really like to do something for him about this!

check engine light came on misfire code (tune up previously done). Was told that the water pump was bad. Installed a new pump, gaskets, seals timing belt, etc. Less than two days later I called him to inform him the car did not seem to drive correctly. Two weeks later the check engine comes on again (misfire code). I took it back and told him please recheck everything you fixed. less than a months later the bolt that holds the crank shaft & pulleys came loose fan belts are distroyed. I had that repaired and informed the so called specilalist of his error. He stated yes it was his error and the bolt was rusted he put on a new stud and cleaned everything and rechecked his work. After severaly more trips of complaining the car is not running properly, I notice that I had an oil leak and atifreeze from the timing belt cover area. Again he admits his error (seals & gaskets bad) & repairs. I want to know if all these errors cause other damage to the engine over a 7 mo period?

I had the belts changed recently (within the month) I live in NY and there was a snow storm....when I drove away the next morning there was a loud screaming noise intermittently only when I stepped on the gas and went away after I depressed the accelerator. I put WD-40 on all the belts and the noise still intermittently comes. What should I do? What could it be? 1986 BMW 325e
