I am desparately trying to get my husbands car overhauled somehow for him. It is his only source of transportation and is falling apart. It is his "baby", 69 el camino, that he has had since approx 1975. We are so financially challenged and it needs almost everything as you can guess by it's age. He brought his now 16 y/o home from the hospital in this car so you can imagine his attachment. I applied to overhaulin but of course no luck. Any ideas? His bd is coming up and i would really like to do something for him about this!

Time to let your fingers do the walking…
You aren't going to get the little pick-up pimped here, but—
1) Check with the local community college and ask if they could make it a project.
2) Call your local government agencies to see if there are programs that you might qualify for.
3) Check with your pastor or one of the deacons. Your church might have something available for this sort of benevolence support.
4) It may be time to park it for a while until other obligations have diminished and there are more funds available. Then consider buying a car that can get you around more dependably, and perhaps you could qualify for some financing.

Happy Motoring

I wish I could help. The El Caminos are appreciating vintage cars, a '69 in great shape would be worth about $15,0000. Make a list of the things it needs, and set priorities. Some things can undoubtedly be accomplished cheaply. And if he or you can do the work, that would be a big savings.
