The default Carb settings on all two cycle gasoline engines are:
High Speed Screw 1 turn out
Low Speed Screw 1 turn out
the idle speed screw has no default setting just run the engine and adjust as necessary.
The high and low speed screws should be adjusted an 1/8 of a turn at a time
if the engine hesitates as you rev it up the low speed is too lean or too rich look at the exhaust to determine which
the engine should run rich at full speed with no load but lean out under load.
If the idle speed chases (that is changes for no reason) it most likely means you have an air leak that must be fixed

On the Briggs replace the carb with a new one or replace the whole engine with a Honda.
I'm from Milwaukee and been to the plant
Briggs makes the crappiest engine on the market.
Most of the 4 cycle engines have fixed jets so there is no adjustment unless its a snow blower engine then you just screw with the main jet and idle circuit screws until you get it right.
Hope this helps

The two screws are 1 for mixture set at 1 3/4 turns out and the other should regulate your butterfly which should be open about 1/16 of an inch roughly, this is generally a safe starting point

Briggs...1 and 1/2 turns.

Actualy...just about everything is 1 and 1/2 turns then adjust for altitude.
