I live in Motueka New Zealand and need to find a Solanoid for my Toyota Corona and not sure how much to pay for one and wether or not the fact that I have burnt that out will affect the rest of my vehicle. Could I replace just the solanoid or do I have to replace the whole starter?

If you are very sure the problem is a defective solenoid - just replace it.

But before if you replace the starter motor, ensure it is not the external wiring fault, i.e. is there any supply reaching the solenoid. Pull out the wire linking to the smaller terminal of the solenoid, place a 12 V test lamp on it and turn your ignition switch to start. If every thing is okay, the test light will light up....or else nothing wrong to your starter/solenoid.

If you found troublesome to replace the solenoid, can be a bit complicated for some, just replace with a re-built starter assembly (cheaper).

Defective starter system like your case will not normally affect the other system.

Happy starting!!!!
