And the guy I bought it from took his battery back to use in another car and I told him it was ok.... well got it home and got another battery and guess what, I hook it up wrong. Well apparently the positive and negative battery cables are reversed on this model and now it won't start. I will trace the wires out but before I start. Is there a fused wire or a fuse that went bad when I applied the cables to the terminals, I am getting nothing at the moment. Thanks In Advance.

I am thinking of putting an inverter on my car (small peugeot 106), to power some mains devices, I know it varies for cars and engines but how much wattage/load do you reckon I could cope with before worrying about exhausting the battery (with the engine running)? I don't know my alternators output, so if you have any rough ideas what would your estimate be?

I was driving on the highway and noticed that my car started making a weird sound kind of like a roaring sound. Then i realized that i had it on brake. I released the brake but my car continued to make the same sound every time i would accelerate in speed mainly higher then 50-60mph. Can you tell me does this sound like a serious problem and if you know what is the problem. My car is a Honda civic year 2003.

Brought a 2003 used car recently (20000 miles on clock) and the clutch burnt out in first week! Warranty covered it because obviously it wasn't down to me! But, how is it possible to burn out a clutch after 20000 miles? Was the previous owner a particularly bad driver or is it the design of the car? If latter I need a driving lesson because I have a history of burning out clutches (but not after 20000 miles) and don't want to be paying out for a new clutch in 20000 miles time!!!!

I took my car in for an oil change and I was a little overdue, so I let the shop talk me into an oil flush and a new airfilter. When I got home, I found out they also told my husband he needed the same thing during his oil change a few days ago. I'm starting to doubt whether they're being honest or trying to pad the bill.

They also told my husband that he had oil leaking into his spark plugs, but it was a slow leak so he should bring it in next week for maintenance that was according to them "similar to a tune-up" and would cost ~$550.

I mentioned that I was a little overdue for the 60,000 mile maintenance on my car, but at least it wouldn't cost as much as my husband's upcoming repair and they said that replacing the timing belt should cost over $500.

I also noticed after I left that even though I had a coupon for a $19.95 oil change with an added $4 rebate, they charged me $32.99 minus $5.

Is this all on the up and up or are they taking advantage of us?

When I first got my new car in Feb. 2001 I used to change the oil in my car as often as recommennded. Then after like 2 yrs I slacked off and did it MUCH less frequently, for a few years. Then I met a mechanic who did all kinds of stuff to my car. He started putting full synthetic in it and changed the oil every 3-4K miles, for about a year. Sometime after the first oil change he did, he started adding some Lucas oil treatment to it, he said a little at a time with every oil and filter change. He said that my oil always looked black even after a change. Then after the last change, that same day the crank broke! It only had 80K miles on it. My choices were to rebuild or replace. He blames it on the fact that for those few years I didn't change the oil frequently enough and then the Lucas caused that to happen to the engine. Is he full of you know what?

My civic '98 is running good. It is just that the temp gauge is stuck in between normal and cold. It doesn't move one milimeter. My heater is blowing cold air and I replaced the thermostat already. Could it be the temperature sending unit?
