Your little trucklet doesn't have a MAF. It has a MAP (M*anifold A*bsolute P*ressure) sensor, and they don't clean up well. It is best to replace them WHEN they fail.
The ECT (E*ngine C*oolant T*emperature) sensor is a simple replacement. Merely unscrew the old sensor, and replace with the new unit.
Be certain you replace the correct unit. There is one for the instrument cluster, and one for the PCM.

The ECT sensor is actually an Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. It's most likely located in one of your heads. (assuming this is a 6 cyl. S-10) If not in a head, it's in the intake manifold. When you locate it and remove it, it'll spew some coolant. Be sure the engine is not hot when you do this, or you'll spray hot coolant onto your hand, and that won't feel good.

Technically, MAF sensors are not supposed to be cleaned. If it's been contaminated by something, you might be able to remove it from the air intake tube (that's where they are, by the way) and clean the fine wires with brake clean. Don't be tempted to use water, or you might short it out. Likewise with carb cleaner, becuase it will leave a residue that will attract more dirt.

Good luck!

the mass air flow sensor is located in the air intake hose......between the air filter and the throttle body unit/cold air intake........it,s relatively easy to change.....the element should be right there with it..........the ( ect) sensor is also easy to replace...just unhook the wiring....get the right socket & unscrew it.....be ready to install the new one for coolant will escape....hope this help,s........good luck!
