i have a 1988 Cadillac fleetwood hearse front-wheel drive v8
(60 special) and awhile ago it started smoking when we where going down the road, so we ended up replacing the alternator and belt which made it stop smoking. but then a few days later it died on us and we had to keep jumping it to get it home. so then we decided to replace the battery and once again it ran fine for a day but then it died again. we then had the alternator, battery, and the starter tested and they were all fine except one of the wires was a little lose on the starter, so now my dad and i think we may have fixed the wire but so far since the last time it died we haven't tryed taking it back out yet, because my dad wants to wait untill we can find out what wrong with it first and we dont have the money to get it tested, so if anyone has any ideas i'd really appreciate any responses. thanks.

Hello there. I've just bought a brand new car (diesel). My grandad insists I need to run it in - ie, take it a long journey soon, avoid high revs and suchlike. He reckons this will make the car have a longer life.

Is that really true? And if so, does anyone have any good running in regimes?

Hi,
I have a "52" reg Vauxhall Corsa Diesel 1.7 DTI and im having problems.

The engine cut out on the motorway and the Engine Management Light comes on. After about a minute I can restart the car but now keeps cutting out when driving.
When its ideling, it seams to bu very jumpy or "jiggy" but keeps going. (I dont know much about cars but sounds like what happened when the old carboretta's in cards got clogged).

Is there anything I can try? I cannot drive it far as it keeps cutting out. Is there a filter I could check? I dont know where the fuel filter is?

Hope you can help

My neighbor (we live in a gated apartment complex with no garages) has an SUV due to get repossessed. He changed the code on the factory alarm, covered the VIN and put a lock on the brake pedal (effectively locking the car in PARK). He was laid off and wants to catch up on payments. I told him to stash it at a friends garage but he feels ok the way he has it set up. What do you make of this?

I have a 1993 Mercury Sable with 165k on it. It had been running fine, but suddenly two weeks ago it began to have a problem with stalling. I initially attributed it to the the wet and cold weather. I could start the car, but as soon as I'd take it out of park the engine would stall. I let it be for a couple days, when it had warmed and dried up. The car started, and then I took it around the block. The second turn I took, the car stalled out mid turn. The engine wouldn't turn over at that point after a couple tries. I was ready to push it to a parked position on the side of the street, but then gave it one more go and it started. I drove it back to my place and haven't dared drive it anywhere since. Any ideas?

We have a 2004 Dodge Durango and recently purchased 4 new BF Goodrich All Terrain tires, the exact same size as the original tires. Now that we have had them put on, there seems to be a rattling noise coming from all four tires, similar to something being left inside the hubcap and moving around while the tire is rotating. We removed all 4 tires and the hubcaps and found no loose valve stems or any other loose object. The sounds are not consistent and not always present. We have not seen any pattern as to when the sound appears, however, the sound varies in volume but usually is very loud and can be heard with the windows up. The ride is smooth with no problems there. The Tire dealership says it the tires explanding, rubbing the rims and will not hurt the vehicle. We are not so sure. Any suggestions on what could be making this sound and what we should do?

I have a 92 model automatic civic fuel injected i seem to be faced with a trimbling problem with the engine during driving....the engine acts as if it's straining to pull the car....what i did i put the car on park & rev the engine hard & what i heard was the same stifling noise from the engine.....my mechanic told me it could be my timing belt....i would like to know if the "timing" is OFF could this be responsible for the trimbling of the engine..?

The starter on my car went out about a week ago. My lights come on and everything but my radio and windshield wipers dont work. Does this have anything to do with the starter not working at the moment or is there a blown fuse or something? Thanks in advance.

We recently acquired a car hauling company and I know little to nothing about trucking. We have a 2003 Peterbuilt tractor hooked up to a 2003 Cottrell trailer, with regular maintence how many years or miles can we expect it to run before needing replacement?

This truck has a 351 motor and i just replaced the alternator and the battery and the voltage regulator but now it wont crank unless it is jumped off. The gauge inside my truck is reading at 14volts when hooked to another car bit reading 11 after unhooking. I also tried unhooking the battery to see if my truck will keep running with alternator but it shuts off. I did have to rewire my wires from the voltage regulator to the alternator. Any ideas ???

I have a 1998 Subaru Impreza. A 5-speed. I realize it's an older car, but I have taken good care of it and I can't afford to get a new one. Unfortunatly, the past year has been rough. I've had brake issues, an oil leak, needed a front axle, and now this...
Sometimes it feels like the clutch is going out. When I shift, it goes "wwwhhhheee" like I am just learning how to drive a stick. It smells like burning everytime I drive it. Going up hills is rough as is accelerating (like getting on a highway).
At this point, after dropping over $1000 in the last year, I'm afraid to bring it in. I know I need to though. I'm just hoping someone might be able to give me an idea so I can brace myself for the bad news. What could be the problem and how much might that cost to repair?

My car smokes like a freight train, has for years. I am finally replacing the rings, and wondered if there is no obvious signs of wear on the cylinder walls, do they need honed? I've heard ppl say yes, and no, I am just trying to get more opinions before I proceed. Thanks.
