i was changing the battery in my 1971 ford pinto and i spot welded the ratchet to the frame what should i do?

Smack it out with a 3lb mallet. In a 79' pinto the only thing you can hit is the battery tray and the fender well, not the frame. If you hit the frame you are using a BIG extension bar and it should still come off with a 3lb mallet. or a 20 oz. hammer for that matter. And don't do it again, Dodge man is right, be glad it didn't blow up in your face. Hydrogen gas is a mother******.,and can change your facial expression real quick. Personally I am glad you are still here to ask this question, remove the negative cable 1st next time.

First off, NEVER remove the positive terminal first(now you know why!), Second always use a wrench, not a ratchet/socket. The ratchet should just break off from the spot weld. You are very lucky in that the battery did not explode. Taking the negative terminal off first eliminates the danger of accidently 'shorting' the battery if you touch the positive terminal to ground when removing it. hope this helps.

i own a repair shop,and id be glad it didn't blow up in my face,i shorted one out once and it blown a hole in the hood of a truck,so your lucky ,those things can hurt you,but id grind it of or get it off somehow,,don't worry your not the only one who has ever done that either,most people wont admit it ,but I'm sure its happened to a bunch of us,good luck with it .

Get a plasma cutter, or just break it off, you won't hurt the frame, but you might need a new wrench

Be thank full it didn't blow up, make sure nothing else can short out and you should be able to work it till it comes loose or grind it off.
