My moms car is a bit old and has 86,000, Her Low Coolent Level light has been on for a while and I think she might have a leak saying when I fill up her resevors the light never goes away even after trying to reset it. I have also fluched the lines and everything seemed ok. What else is there i can do with out spending big bucks on a mechanic? I was also told there could be a leak near the engine compartment, he told me to jack the car up and turn the wheels to the left and look near the compartment lift up a flap and the leak should be there? any other sugestions?

I had my car MOT'd and subseqently ripped off, paid £497, and got taxed twice, we did 10 miles after the MOT was done, then there was a knockig on the car, had it towed to a garage and got told that we're luck to be alive as the drivers wheel was hanging on by a thread and ready to drop off due to the wheel screws being put back on too tightley. The MOT garage are now denying all responsibility, although due to the wheels being alloy's, they're the only people able to do anything with the wheels.

The idle speed was erratic - I seemed to be able to control this by regularly cleaning out the air intake, hoses that link air filter to oil filler cap etc. from gunk that collects due to water in the oil ( head gasket ? ) but now the idle speed is too high when started, settles down, but then is too high when accelerator is depressed - so in between gear changes when driving etc. When stationary, revs settle down again. Had a look in the haynes man. but all I could get from this is that it might be the ' engine management system " - erm... what does this mean ( in terms of difficulty, cost etc. ) ??? Really, it's on it's last legs (?) I know, but if I can make it chug on a bit longer....I'd appreciate any help - THANKS

Know British Gas reputation stinks but how do they get away with it? Probably because idiots like me continue to pay them. In my case maintenance only but in my area apart from them only odd job people to do maintenance. Notice with a problem if they cannot just touch something it's passed to the next shift and on and on. Had radiaitor problem, umpteem men came for months, then supervisor.. Told I needed new one, as if hoping I would change my mind said it would not match the other in the room. Suddenly bends down and takes a cap off and says "Who's been at this?". ONLY BG and all it required was turn of screwdriver, that was 4 yrs ago. Latest at annual service mentioned top hall radiator not heating. Told me as the system was getting old it was gunge and probably not worth my while seeing to it as to flush out the system was, £500-£600. Tonight tried to bleed, told by BG ok if water came out, it did but decided to catch water in jug for awhile and lo and behold roasting!

I have Mitsubishi Galant 1998 118000 miles. Recently I noticed that it gives out white smoke from the exhaust pipe. The smoke is more when the car is at stop with engine running. I noticed it does not overheat or anything like that. Any ideas why this is happening? If yes, then what would an estimated cost to repair this? Thank you.

I think I have a cracked head gasket, because my coolant my sludgy which was making the car start to run hot. Is this the type of repair you can trust with a garage, or should this be strictly a dealership repair? I can afford the repair(probably) I just don't want to risk taking it to a place that will wrongly identify the problem, fix the wrong thing, and the same problem keeps happening....

Apparent when turning. Probably more so on left hand turn .Checked offside wheel and slight movement when pushed /pulled. Is it wheel bearings?
If so is it straight forward /simple DIY job?
Any advice appreciated.

I lent my car to a friend for about 3 months, and now my brakes are shot. I'm wondering if it was caused by the way she drives (always pumping the brakes at lights, etc) or if it is probably just ordinary wear and tear. It irks me that the brakes did not seem bad when I lent it to her, but now they are completely ruined.
Just curious if I can give her a hard time for costing me $500+!!!
