Actually the conversion is CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and it has been done on all the buses in San Bernardino County.
There are numerous web sites about the benefits of the conversion. Here is one
http://www.omnitekcorp.com/engconvert.htm
CNG is better than propane because if you have natural gas at your home or business you can purchase a refueling station that just fills your tank from the local gas supply.

it can be done! take a look online there are several companies offering to convert diesels basically any turbocharged engine can be done but it is mainly a performance extra and the engine will still need to be running on diesel at all times you cant turn the diesel off lke in a petrol car but you add lpg to the air intake which gives extra power or the same power for less diesel. its not very cost efficient yet i think most of the systems are aimed at fleet users.

You'll get a reduction in economy but LPG is less than half the price. Cost effective.

Can't be done as Liquified Petroleum Gasoline is high octane and requires a spark to fire the piston.
Diesel, however, is basically an oil which is viscouse. It has to 'Diesel' i.e, it requires to be put under pressure for the oil to heat sufficiently to fire. There is no spark.
