Maintenance & Repairs - January 2007

Just changed the battery, the old one was working but were told it was in poor health. Now the van is not starting at all with a brand new battery in it. Any ideas or suggestions?

There was dust in my gas tank and I got check engine light. 3 Cylinders were mis firing. After the tank was cleaned I was asked to drive for 20-40 miles at 60mph(with fuel injector cleaner)to clear any clog in fuel injectors. It did not help. Then got the injectors replaced. It ran very good for a day. Then I got Check Engine Light and OBD Code P0420. My mechanic reset it and asked me to see him if it comes again. He also that old hondas can get this in winters for no reason.

I don't see any difference in my car performance. I just get check engine light.

Is it safe to drive the car?
What coluld be the problem with the car?
Is it true that some old hondas get his problem in winters?
Can this be because I drove for 40 miles with bad fuel injectors? At that time cylinders still misfiring.

i drive a manual mazda navajo and yesterday i started my car just fine but when i turned on the heater the battery went dead. i was able to restart my car without the heater on but the low battery light remained on. at lunch i changed the battery and every thing registered fine for the rest of the day even with the heater on, but when i started my car this morning and turned the heater on it made the battery light come on again. does anyone have any idea whats going on? or what i need to do to fix the problem?

My car is almost on 21,000 miles. My last change was at 19,000 miles. I'm supposed to get a change at 22,000 miles. I know I have a lot of mileage to wait, but I was told by someone that I should change oil at least every 3 months anyway. Well, it's been over 4 months.... should I get the oil change. I don't want to ask the Service Dept. at the dealer because they love ripping me off. If it helps any, I have a 2005 VW Passat 1.8T = expensive oil changes.

Im changing the spark plugs and wires on my civic. When I took out the 1st plug wire from the spark plug, the bottom piece "boot" stayed on the spark plug in the cylinder. How do i take that out??? The socket wont go all the way down so I can turn it loose. help please.

My dealer says to just use this at every oil change to keep engine and injectors like new, so I was wondering what to buy as my local shops don't carry this and there are so many choices.

When I was younger I used to put 109 Octane Fuel in my high performance ford car. I used to get the fuel from a Shell gas station that had 1 special pump boasting 109 Octane. they said it was "airplane fuel".

What the hell was this, and what did it do to the performance?

I know anything higher than 93 is wasted.. but what was the deal? This is when I was younger and had testosterone coming ouf of my ears.

A few months ago while I was in Florida I walked back to my truck after school around 4:00 pm. It started but then immediatly stalled out after about 1 second of the engine running. I tryed starting it again several times and right after the engine caught it would just stall out.

Anyway, I had to get it towed to a shop; they looked at it for a few minutes didn't know what was wrong but told me they would fix it first thing in the morning since they were getting ready to close. I got a call first thing in the morning after they looked at it and they said it started right up for them. They put my truck on the computer and there were no problems that showed up. It just suddenly started working.

Can anyone tell me what in the world happened. Its been running fine for the last 5 months now, and knowone knows why my truck wouldn't start for just that one afternoon.

When I start my car, and next few minutes, my car is fine. After a few minutes it begins to develop a small miss when stopped. About 10-20 minutes into a ride it will start to develop a good shake when stopped. Soemtimes it will start shaking pretty good and my oil light will flicker, possibly due to low pressure. My temperature is higher than normal and at times it starts to overheat. I also go through water fairly quickly. While driving I never really feel a problem. My mechanic told me to change my oil to fix it. I told him I disagreed, but since it was getting near to being due anyway I went ahead and did it. Still having the same problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Today morning as I was driving to job, my car gave some problem. As I gave gas, the car got raised but the car moved very slowly. Whenever I gave gas the car got raised with a booommm....sound but was moving only at 20 m/hour speed. The rpmx1000 was going to 4 -5. so I changed the gear position to 2 and and some how managed to reach office.

Car is: 1994 mitsubish Galant, miles: 180K. previously mechanic told me that the transmission of my car is in bad condition. Some of my friends told me I have to change time-belt. recently when I used to break at signals the engine used give kind of "jump"

What could bethe problem with my car.

We recently aquired a Citroen BX -1992-petrol -auto choke.
It starts and ticks over ok. When driving for the first 2/3 miles it stutters and hesitates a number of times then seems to be ok after that. Anybody know why it would do this - any advice appreciated.
