We recently aquired a Citroen BX -1992-petrol -auto choke.
It starts and ticks over ok. When driving for the first 2/3 miles it stutters and hesitates a number of times then seems to be ok after that. Anybody know why it would do this - any advice appreciated.

Just sounds like you need a tune up,plugs wires, air filter-that sort of thing.

Classically, it's the auto-choke not performing properly. However, as has been said, a good service & tuneup should put matters to rights - a worthwhile investment, especially with a BX.

what you really need is half a gallon of petrol (optimax or equivelant) pour liberally all over the car use 1 match to ignite run away, then stand and admire as the BX burns brightly on a cold winters evening (that'll be another heap off the road)

i own a repair shop, and it sounds like a good tune up would probably take care of it on this one,but have them do everything on it including setting the timing also, usually a real good tune up will take care of it,but be sure and have the gas filter changed also in it ,this is very important, but that should take care of it,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Once you're sure it's not just needing a tune-up, I'd go straight to the auto-choke unit. They were a pain in the ***!

Your gas in the car has to have a chance to warm up after being left out in the cold. (If it is cold where you are right now) I suggest buy a can of dry gas. Just pour it in your tank and it helps to keep your gas from freezing.
