I'm wondering if I ever needed to use the spare... cause its smaller.. if I'd be straining the axle ? If so I will look to get myself a fifth 15inch spare.

Thanks.

This intermittent problem is driving me nuts! I have taken this car to multiple mechanics. Each time, the problem seems fixed but then returns. Here are the repair facts... over the last 3 years (approximately 20,000 miles) I have replaced the following hoping to resolve this issue:

1. Solenoid
2. Fuel Filters (twice)
3. Fuel Pump
4. Spark Plugs and Wires
5. Alternator

The problem seems to be worse in the Winter & worse in cold, damp weather. Clears in Summer. The most common scenario is I will be traveling on the highway at speeds of 40 - 60 MPH on a straight, steep grade. Things go fine for a few seconds, then suddenly the car will shudder, the RPMs will drop, the car will start sputtering, shaking, lose power, lose speed, and sometimes die. Often times this is accompanied by a foul, odd odor from the exhaust system. If I pull over, and the engine dies (or I turn it off) I wait a few minutes and then can usually start the car and go again.

This returns each Winter. Help!

I've once heard the phrase "dont use the transmission as a kickstand" and I'm aware that it holds the weight of the body if you dont put the parking break on, but is it significant? I know a lot of people who don't even bother and haven't ever had a transmission problem.

Also, what happens if you accidentally leave the parking break on while driving?

If you're parked next to someone and you open your car door and it scratches their car, would it be treated the same way as an automobile accident? If not, how would the damage cost be taken care of?

This morning it was a little cold. When I turned on the car, instead of just idling smoothly, it went... vrrrmm.... vrrrmm.... vrrrrmmm... while it was idling. After I drove off, it was fine. When I was stopped at lights, it was fine. Even after I hadn't drove it in a while, it idled perfectly. It only did that this morning, but I was was wondering why? By the way, it is a 2.4 L engine 4 cylinder twin cam. I installed bosch spark plugs that require no gapping.

I have a 99 chevy blazer. The problem is that every now and then it wont start. I'll turn the key and the engine cranks but it just wont turn over. Then i'll let it sit for about 15mins go back and try to start it and it starts right up. This will sometimes last for days or 1 to 2 months then it will be fine. Ive taken it to many mechanics even the dealership and no one knows what the problem is. Ive even went online to see if thers been any recalls...nothin! just the gas cap was recalled but that was before i had the car. Does anyone know what this could be. A little history on the car, i've had the starter replaced about 1 1/2yr ago and a new engine about 3-4 yrs ago.

I do not drive the car very often. Usually once in a week and only for very short distances (i.e. 3 miles or so). Lately, I need a jump start to get the car started and the mechanics say I do not need battery change either. The prescription is to drive the car once in a while for 40 minutes or so. I also heard AAA people saying starting the car and set the car idling will do which means I do not even need to drive it around to get the battery charged. Is it true? Many thanks.

My SUV is at transmission repair shop. I agreed to pay $49 fee to have them look at it. I did not authorize work to be done and in fact- no repairs have been done. I want to take it to another shop- because these guys have been shady. Now they are saying they will not allow it to be released- until I pay $250 for labor. The SUV is legally my step-dad's and is and has always been titled and insured and tagged in his name. Can they hold this vehicle legally? I do not think I owe them $250 just to look at it and tell me what is wrong with it.

Hi, I have a 1997 Daihatsu Grand Move + Automatic.
I was just wondering what the RPM shoulld be when you are stationary. My car starts off revving at about 800 - 1000 RPM, then later in the journey it can go as low as 500. Is this Normal? When I bought it I had trouble with it cutting out when I stopped, Say at lights or a junction, Then when I went to pull away the car would cut out ( When it was revving low ) and I am worried it will happen again. I took it back to the dealers and they "sorted it", they said the throttle had loads of muck in it,they cleaned it and it has not cut out since but I am worried about the RPM now. Should I be worried?????
