Hi, I have a 1997 Daihatsu Grand Move + Automatic.
I was just wondering what the RPM shoulld be when you are stationary. My car starts off revving at about 800 - 1000 RPM, then later in the journey it can go as low as 500. Is this Normal? When I bought it I had trouble with it cutting out when I stopped, Say at lights or a junction, Then when I went to pull away the car would cut out ( When it was revving low ) and I am worried it will happen again. I took it back to the dealers and they "sorted it", they said the throttle had loads of muck in it,they cleaned it and it has not cut out since but I am worried about the RPM now. Should I be worried?????

The rpm should get lower when the engines warm but 500 is too low, and is probably on the verge of cutting out. i dought if the dealer/garage actually fixed it at all. they are BSing you. Your car is kinda old which means its easier to fix. you can mechanically alter the throttle cable under the bonnet so that it holds a higher idle speed.
This happens also on very modern cars for different reasons. usually the engine management.

Try turning the tick over up a bit. If somebody moves the accelerator gently for you while you watch the carburettor, you will see it move and then go back against a screw. Do the screw up a little bit, then the accelerator can't rev down on it's own Good luck.

No U don't need to worry. As long as the power is plenty getting going, your fine. Most of the 2000 & up have an overdrive gear, that's what's happing it is just shifting in to that fear. I hope this helps ya.
