It varies from state to state. In my state if I let a customer take the vehicle without paying in full, they are under no legal obligation whatsoever to pay any remaining balance, no matter what they signed. Therefore, we never release a vehicle without recieving full payment.

Problem solved.

call a lawyer or call the police,he will have to prove he has a valid lien filed against it and if not he can be charged with theft and possesion.if you signed and he has a valid lien then probably not much you can do but pay up,dont forget he will probably add storage and towing charges as well

What state???????????????????? In Mass.,if I am not mistaken, the garage must place a MECHANICS LEAN on the vech. This must be issued by the courts. If no lean is in effect I beleive that they are guilty of Grand Theft Auto......You might go to the court and see if one is in effect....If not go to the Police and report it stolen...........

Probably not legally.
Why don't you just pay him and get it back?
There must be more to this story.
