My SUV is at transmission repair shop. I agreed to pay $49 fee to have them look at it. I did not authorize work to be done and in fact- no repairs have been done. I want to take it to another shop- because these guys have been shady. Now they are saying they will not allow it to be released- until I pay $250 for labor. The SUV is legally my step-dad's and is and has always been titled and insured and tagged in his name. Can they hold this vehicle legally? I do not think I owe them $250 just to look at it and tell me what is wrong with it.

The lawyer will atleast be waiting to handle the warrants and get you out of that difficulty, yet while hes any good he additionally will see you have a case. The mechanic can not only shop your motor vehicle and not answer calls. in case you have information of all your telephone calls made to him that exhibits attempt and you gets your motor vehicle back when you pay his fees.
