I have a 96 Ford Contour (4 cyl, AT) that is only blowing air out of the defroster vents. Both PANEL and FLOOR settints have no effect. I figure that there is some sort of switch that controls where the air flows to, but have no idea what I am looking for or where to find it. It does not seem to be an electrical issue, as the heat still flows, the fuses are intact, and the blower motor will operate.

I have a 2000 Mercury Sable, 120k miles.

The engine starts and runs fine at all speeds until I park the car and turn the heater fan dial to the off position. Then the RPM's bounce from 1k down to 0k over and over until I shut off the engine or switch the gear back to drive. The dashboard lights also dim while the car is stuttering and the car acts like it will die.
>This is repeatable.< >no check engine light comes on< I have not yet let the engine die completely but I'm sure it would if I didn't either turn off the engine or shift to drive. I can also save the engine from stuttering in park by applying the gas. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Again, has only happened while the gear is in PARK and I turn the heater fan to the Off Position. Thanks so much.

I have the adjustable coilover and adjustable rear shocks. If i tighten down the preload nuts, will that make that ride harder or softer. and would it raise or lower my front end. it seems that when i hit speed bumps i just messed up my front end, and then when i go over it with the back end, it's like the bump isn't there. how can i balance it out?

I believe the alignment in my car might be off, but just slightly, so it's hard to tell. I don't want to spend the money to have it aligned if there really isn't a problem. Are there any places that will check alignment for free?

I asked a question about the safety of a repaired frame on a 2003 Chevy Malibu. The insurance company wants to fix it, and that's fine with me, but only if they can guarantee me that it's just as safe as before. The body shop said it has damage to the bumper area (I was rear ended) and that they can straighten it out. I called the insurace company and asked them to guarantee me that the frame would be as fundamentally sound and safe as before it was hit and they wouldnt' do it. Do I have the right to make sure my car will be safe after the work it done? I have three small daughters and if it happens again I want to know that they won't be at any increased danger. Does the insurace company have to guarantee the repairs are safe?

Hi All!

My Jeep has started giving me some trouble. When the gas needle reaches 1/4 tank or less, the truck starts to hesitate/stall when I step on the gas (like if I am driving down an on ramp!!!). Sometimes it acts like the whole thing is going to shut off or like I have run out of gas. I loose power and I pump the pedal to make it go (I have an electric fuel pump, but still pump the pedal anyway).
I have a digital gauge that tells me the distance to empty and fuel economy. It ONLY does it when the tank is low. Gas cap is tight and makes a good seal. Could it be an amperage thing? (Battery cable was corroded and we replaced the bad part, but not the whole cable). Would the fuel pump act up only when the tank is low?
And YES, I know, Just keep it above the 1/4 tank line...that does not fix the problem though...
------} confused and dangerously frustrated :(

One of the head light bulbs on my car blow and my b/f said I have to change both of them. This doesn't make sense to me because now they might both go at the same time and I would be screwed if it happened at night. Who is right !?

OK, heres 1 thats got me stumped.
98 Astro Van, V-6, the blower motor wont shut off!
My wife called me 1 night, saying it wont shut off, even if she turns the van off.
Sure enough I got home, and the blower was running on HI only.
So, as a temp. fix, I just dis-connected the battery to get it to shut off, until I could look further into it.
The blower motor is fine, I disconnected the power to it, and it shut off.
I havent torn apart the dash yet, I think it might be somewhere around the selector switch. But I was told it could be a problem with the ignition switch since the fan is running even with the van off.

So as of now, I just ran a jumper wire into the interior with a toggle switch, as a temporary fix.

Anyone have any idea what/where to look?
Im a pretty fair shade-tree mechanic, brakes, tune-ups, etc. So, Id like to be able to see if I can do it myself.
